how many more repeats ? what is this , the 6th time in 3 months ? yeah , we got it the first couple of times and the odd few who missed it again had already seen it !!!!!!!!

Fails in almost every way This film fails in many ways:
1) bad dialogue (esp. compared to the witty original). Tries to hard to modernise it bad loses the charm of its predecessor.
2) No likeable characters - Charlie just comes across as a sappy kid, Wonka as someone you'd find on a register preventing from coming with 50 feet of a schoolyard. The other kids who are meant to be horrors, are least meant to be likeable in the sense that you like to hate them. I couldn't care about these even to hate them.
3) each section just seems to be thrown up just to show off some special effects. They contribute little to the characters, storyline or emotional involvement and it seems like the director didn't care about any of those things.
4) Willy Wonka's back story doesn't work. The original and the book took the better approach of leaving it a mystery. How CAN you explain how a guy ends up being Willy Wonka? You can't! It's better just to leave the viewer wondering and perhaps using his/her imagination.

Rubbish Whats the point of this film? It looks pretty rubbish with a weak storyline (regardless of whether its the original or this one). And Johnny Depp reminds me of Michael Jackson in this film.

In the Middle I kind of like this film. I was disappointed at the cinema as I only went to watch it to hear the oompa-lumpa dooba-dee-do song... which never appeared. However, the film has been growing on me ever since and it is a very good film :) Hmm...5:02pm Sun 12 Apr
