Deserves the oscar A wonderful film. Full of energy, humour, violence,love, comradeship. Does it matter iif the story is a bit far fetched? Isn't that what story telling is all about? Very good I saw this in the theatres with much reluctance - it seemed too harrowing. And it was very harrowing, but it moved me to tears. As a child of Indian immigrants, the depiction of poverty struck me because it matched up with my own observations of it from my countless holidays in India. It is... ...overhyped (which is why you should treat 'hype' of any kind lightly, including Oscar winners, and make your own mind up about anything). But that being said, it is watchable, if there's not much else on. To G.C. (below) - I completely believe the police would torture a child like this; my ethnicity is indian (born and bred in England) and having visited India, have seen the police do some unpleasant things. It's one of the things I thoroughly detest about the country. The antics of the street kids are not beyond belief for me, either. Ignore these people trying to be 'too cool for school' These people sayings its rubbish are just trying to seem better than everyone else because it was so popular. Even if they personally didn't like it, it's still a very good film.
It's one of 2 or 3 really good films I've seen in the last few years, and I have pretty high standards.
Also, I think this film is quite different to the way it's been promoted, in a very good way, much edgier than it's 'feel good' billing. If you've never seen it, you must watch it. tooplanx6:14pm Sun 24 Jan

Brilliant Yes the plot has a few holes but what a well put together film, deserved all the awards and acolades it recieved.
