Eddie Izzard's Mandela Marathons

First of a two-part documentary following comedian Eddie Izzard as he attempts to complete 27 marathons across South Africa in as many days - one for each year that Nelson Mandela spent in prison - while along the way visiting some of the milestone locations in the 94-year-old former president's life. He begins in Mandela's birthplace of Mvezo, which seems like the most appropriate location - but from a runner's perspective it couldn't be worse, with its rocky terrain soon taking its toll on the funnyman.

Henry VIII's Enforcer: The Rise and Fall of Thomas Cromwell
Lawyer and statesman Thomas Cromwell served as chief minister to Henry VIII from 1532 to 1540 and has gone down in history as one of the most corrupt and manipulative people ever to hold power in England. In this documentary Diarmaid MacCulloch reveals another side to the man, arguing that Cromwell was a principled idealist and revolutionary whose radical evangelism laid the foundations for the modern British state.

On June 4, 1913, militant activist Emily Wilding Davison stepped into the path of George V's horse, which was running in the Epsom Derby, sustaining fatal injuries. The shocking moment was captured on three newsreel cameras, but mystery and argument surround the story behind it. Clare Balding and a team of forensic experts have analysed the footage frame by frame and believe they may have made new discoveries that will shed light on what really happened.
