Life
Best TV of 2009
David Attenborough's nature documentary is nothing short of spectacular. No expense is spared by the BBC, as the whole thing is shot in high definition, using state-of-the-art technology. It took four years to create and the end result is fascinating stuff. If you haven't checked this one out yet, you've been missing out.

The Thick of It
Best TV of 2009
Armando Iannucci's political satire continues to be a hit with TVGuide.co.uk users, being one of the highest rating shows on the website. Our modern-day answer to Yes Minister has won many awards and even went Stateside. Unfortunately, it didn't get a commission there, largely due to the fact there was too much swearing. Probably.

Misfits
Best TV of 2009
Take Skins, add a slightly older cast and some edgy jokes - and you've got another E4 hit! This dark comedy about a bunch of young offenders with superpowers owes its success largely to an amazing cast and great writing. Clearly, there is justice in the world, as it WILL be back for a second series in 2010!

Modern Family
Best TV of 2009
A refreshingly different comedy for Sky1. From Phil, who tries too hard to be a cool dad, to Cameron who's the doting but camp father of an adopted Vietnamese baby, you can't help but love this quirky extended family.

The Mentalist
Best TV of 2009
A runaway smash in the US. Australian Simon Baker has got his pension all sorted thanks to his starring role in this drama based on the psychic abilities of a crime consultant. It's slick, clever and actually quite amusing at times!

FlashForward
Best TV of 2009
This seems to have crept into our Top Ten based on the hype surrounding its first episode alone. What followed has been a bit of a let-down but there's still hope. Let's pray we don't have to wait years and years to find out the cause of the black-out and get answers to the numerous questions that seem to pop up in every new episode. It could be great, or it could be Lost/Prison Break all over again.

True Blood
Best TV of 2009
This show has been the breakthrough hit of the year. Moving from FX to Channel 4, its audience has grown and taken it from cult status to mainstream hit. Vampires are the 'in' thing right now, combine them with a little gore and soft-core porn and Bob's your uncle! A sure-fire hit with staying power.

Doctor Who
Best TV of 2009
David Tennant was recently voted the best Doctor out of all the series so far. That alone gives us licence to put it in our Top Ten of 2009. Plus, the series has had some kick-ass characters lately, from some big names including Billie Piper, Catherine Tate, John Barrowman, Lindsay Duncan and Michelle Ryan. Can 2010 maintain the standard? No pressure then, Matt Smith.
