Synopsis
Jean Francois Richet's film follows the daily struggle of marginalised youths, predominantly of immigrant origin, in a deprived Parisian suburb. Excluded from societal structures, targeted by the authorities and surrounded by gang conflicts, the numerous protagonists hurtle towards a violent denouement.
Ma 6-T has often drawn comparisons to the critically-acclaimed La Haine, in regard to its subject matter and musically influenced style (indeed, Richet's next film, Mesrine, stars La Haine's Vincent Cassel in another troubling violent role). However, Richet takes a more overt political stance against the desperate situation in these suburban towns, as he endeavours to portray the effects on an institution with politicised rap groups on the soundtrack, such as KRS-One, IAM Assassin, complement his discourse in style.
