It was brill!
I know this may seeam Bias as i am a massive fan of both ashes and mars buttt. I though it was really good! must admit the ending was very rushed but thne again there was meant to be an extra 30 minutes on the end of episodes 7 and 8! :@ I feel that it was slightly confusing but the ending was just right!! Althhough it seems to have been left open! I really hope they do not make another one with gene hunt in, that woujld spoil it!! :D xx

disappointed
I was very disappointed with the finale of Ashes to Ashes. What it amounted to was that every storyline in both Life on Mars and Ashes to Ashes was really a fantasy created by the souls of several dead people trapped in a kind of nether world between life and death. Only twice can I remember has this kind of thing being done once in Dallas when one whole season had to be made into a dream because one of the leading actors had decided not to leave the show after all and in the revamped series of Crossroads when the whole series turned out to be only the main charactor's daydream. The idea behind last nights finale would have been interesting if it had been used as an ending for a short running trilogy. But to make it the culmination of what had been two good long running series was very poor. Gene Hunt was obviously based on the charactor of Jack Regan from The Sweeney and to have kept it like that with the two main charactors from LoM and AtA traveling back in time would have been better. Also this curious ending to this episode presumably because the main charactor from the Blue Lamp film had been resurrected in the tv series Dixon of Dock Green. But the film and the tv series if you like featured two different time continuums, one where George Dixon confronts the armed spiv and is killed and the other where he doesn't and so is not killed. Anyway Dixon of Dock Green was made to be different and indeed disregard the film and therefore made sense something which I am afraid the finale of Ashes to Ashes did not.

advertising
The bbc has gone way over the top with constant adverts for this. That amount of advertising ruins a program.
