Ruth Watson tries to improve the fortunes of Monreith House, a Georgian mansion built in 1799 near Port William in Dumfries and Galloway. The property is owned by Michael Maxwell, the last descendant of one of Scotland's oldest families, who has battled to save it from falling into disrepair - but his efforts at making money from the house have been disastrous. Ruth devises a business plan that could turn the property into a desirable destination, and becomes convinced the place needs a woman's touch
