Titanic: A Dead Reckoning

As the Titanic started to sink in April 1912, another ship came into view, offering her passengers the hope of being rescued. However, despite a fusillade of rockets, the ship turned away. Within two hours, 1,500 people were dead. An American investigation at the time accused the SS Californian, even though the freighter was stationary that night. A British inquiry concurred, keen to shift blame from national failures on lifeboat provision and steamship supervision. However, since Titanic's wreck was discovered, the mystery began to unlock, and now, with recently discovered clues, a new suspect has emerged: the SS Mount Temple. This documentary follows a range of experts, using the latest investigative tools, as they examine these new clues and revisit the evidence from 1912 to take a fresh look at the cold case of the 20th century

Titanic: A Dead Reckoning airs on Sky History at 4:00 PM, Saturday 20 April. (Subtitles.)
