Sandancers The detective investigates a suspicious death in an army barracks, aided by Joe and an enthusiastic member of the military police. Although the demise of commanding officer Dev initially looks like suicide, a case for murder is quickly established and the team's first task is to find a motive. Sensing a connection to Ollie, a soldier killed in Afghanistan, Vera interviews the victim's loyal comrades and Ollie's grieving family, discovering a traumatic event that nobody wants to talk about. Young Gods The detective delves into the past of extreme sports enthusiast Gideon Frane after he plunges from a cliff in a ball of flames. A scan of the files reveals a long list of stalking complaints against an ex, and an anonymous letter to the victim spelling out Burn in Hell is linked to one of her friends. Aided by DC Shepherd and the newly appointed DC Edwards, the team tries to track down Gideon's old gang to uncover a lifetime of bullying and an unexpected story of rough justice

Prodigal Son The detective is brought in to investigate when a former Met police officer is stabbed to death outside a nightclub in Newcastle. The team initially suspects a crime of passion after it emerges the victim had recently rekindled his affair with his childhood sweetheart, whose husband has a history of violence. However, Vera uncovers evidence pointing to a more complex case involving inside information and the hostile takeover of a brewery. What did the deceased find out that cost him his life? Guest starring Jill Halfpenny, Christine Bottomley, Ralph Ineson and Liam Cunningham

On Harbour Street New series. The crime drama returns with an episode based on Ann Cleeves' recently published novel Harbour Street. Vera investigates the death of a pensioner found stabbed on a train at the height of rush hour. The case has a huge impact on Joe's home life when his daughter is named as a key witness, and he struggles to maintain a professional distance. The trail leads the team to a quiet Northumberland coastal town where clues appear to lead to one particular street - but why are the residents so reluctant to talk? Protected The detective is called in when David Kenworthy, the son of a prominent local family, is found murdered on the beach at Whitley Bay. A witness spotted arcade owner Larry Crowe arguing with David on the night of the killing, and a search of the suspect's property uncovers a bloodied baseball bat. However, Larry has a cast-iron alibi and it's clear he wasn't the only person the victim met that night. A second death then leaves Vera facing mounting pressure to crack the case, and struggling to answer the question of why David was drawn to the seafront on the evening of his father's retirement. The Deer Hunters The body of a man killed by a single gunshot wound is discovered on the moors and a burnt-out truck containing the remains of a deer is found a mile away. Joe is convinced the case is a poaching war gone wrong, but for Vera, the truth is never that straightforward. Delving into the victim's story, she unearths a sad childhood in the country and a troubled life in the city, scraping by as a novelist. Following the recent death of his grandfather, he returned to Northumberland after a 15-year absence to sell his inheritance to a wealthy couple - but pulled out of the deal at the last minute. Death of a Family Man The detective investigates the mysterious death of businessman John Shearwood, found floating in the water under the Gateshead Millennium Bridge when he was supposed to be on a golfing trip to Ireland. The man's wife Stella and brother Luke are baffled to discover he was working as an informant for HM Revenue and Customs. Chief Revenue investigator Owen Preece (guest star Robert Glenister) reveals John's business manager Mark Donovan has been running an alcohol scam through their haulage firm and the deceased had agreed to offer information in exchange for immunity from prosecution. Changing Tides Crime drama starring Brenda Blethyn. The detective investigates a fire that rips through a holiday park on the Northumberland coast, destroying three cabins. With Jim's suspicions confirmed, a police report then reveals Clare's boyfriend Ryan and his friends had been partying near the scene hours before the blaze started, but where are they now, and where is Deena's best friend Sally? It appears she got caught up in the unrest that day, contradicting her father's assertion that she went straight home. Photographs recovered from her camera yield further revelations for Vera. Muddy Waters When a body is dredged up from a slurry pit on a remote farm, the investigation forces owner Danny Pryor to admit he has a number of illegal Serbian workers on the payroll. A faded tattoo identifies the victim as Jack Reeves, a young man from the local travelling community, but what is his connection to the immigrants? As the case unfolds, Vera and her team must connect the dots between Jack and a wounded Serbian, and expose the tragic truth at the heart of Pryor Farm. Shadows in the Sky When dock worker Owen Thorne plunges from the roof of a multi-storey car park while picking up his daughter from her school prom, Vera immediately detects foul play. The mystery then continues when Vera spots an inconsistency in the statement Owen's wife gave to the police, suggesting she's not certain of her husband's fidelity

Dark Road A body is discovered on the Northumberland moors, and identified as a woman who made a distressed 999 call on the night of her death - suggesting she may have been abducted by someone she knew. Vera takes on the case, and discovers the victim was a controversial figure in her home town, who had a complicated relationship with her family and a number of well-hidden secrets

Tuesday's Child The detective investigates the discovery of a young man's body in an area notorious for illicit teenage gatherings, the corpse wrapped in plastic sheeting and having received a blow to the head. Vera follows the trail to a funfair where the victim used to work and a church where he sought refuge, having recently been made homeless. She delves into his family history to discover why he was on the streets when his parents lived nearby, while forensic evidence implicates the son of the vicar, who has a criminal past

 
Season 6 Episode 3
The Moth Catcher DCI Stanhope and her team, including new recruit DC Hicham Cherradi, travel to a remote country house when the woman looking after it is killed. No sooner have they arrived, than a second body is discovered. Vera discovers the two victims met the night before their deaths, and goes in search of a connection between them. Forensics evidence reveals that one was definitely present when the other died - but when no murder weapon or motive can be found, Vera begins to suspect a third party was involved

 
Season 6 Episode 4
The Sea Glass A fisherman's body is found tangled up in a North Sea trawler's net. Vera and her team investigate with the help of the local harbourmaster, and find the dead man's sons pointing the finger at the owner of a fish market, with whom they have a long-running feud. Retracing the dead man's steps, Vera discovers when he drowned and tracks down a waitress who may have been one of the last people to see him alive. However, the case becomes more complicated when a witness runs away and a boat belonging to the dead man's sister-in-law goes up in flames

 
Season 7 Episode 1
Natural Selection New series. The detective investigates when the body of a wildlife ranger is found on a remote island off the coast of Northumberland. Her death is at first assumed to be an accident, since she was alone on the island when she died, but marks on the body seem to point to murder. As Vera delves into the dead woman's personal life, she uncovers dark secrets and old resentments

 
Season 7 Episode 2
Dark Angel The detective is drawn into Newcastle's underworld to discover the identity of a murder victim found dead in the river, with no clue as to who he is apart from a distinctive drugs wrapper. She discovers the dead man had ties to some very dangerous people, many of whom may have wanted him dead, while a witness's testimony links the case to a remote farm where a murder took place 13 years previously. The connection brings Kenny's past back to haunt him, as he was responsible for seeing the perpetrator convicted

 
Season 7 Episode 3
Broken Promise The detective is called to the University of Northumberland when Jamie Marshall, a promising young journalism student, falls to his death from the top of a disused faculty building. With no eyewitnesses and no immediate leads, Vera turns to friends and family to glean all she can about Jamie, and to discover who might have wanted him dead. The student's innocent facade is revealed to have concealed simmering resentment and anger which he expressed on the internet - and which may have made him some deadly enemies

 
Season 7 Episode 4
The Blanket Mire A body is found buried on the Northumberland moors which could be a missing teenager from the nearby rural community of Brindale. The girl had disappeared six weeks previously, and Vera has to break the news to her devastated family. However, the realisation that she died so close to home rather than at a music festival as originally thought creates tension among her neighbours, who are soon suspecting each other of murder. The detective delves into the vulnerable young woman's isolated existence to identify her killer. Last in the series
