1948 David Lean version In glorious black and white is very evocative of the time in which it was set. I think Dickens would definitely have approved of this one. The young John Howard Davies is superb as Oliver too, though really the whole cast is perfect. I wouldn't change a thing about this one - as with most of the older Dickens adaptations (Great Expectations particularly springs to mind) black and white actually ADDS to the atmosphere.
