The Internazionali BNL d'Italia. Coverage of day nine of the WTA 1000 and ATP 1000 event, a clay-court tournament that takes place at Foro Italico in Rome, Italy, featuring quarter-final matches from the women's and men's draws. All four of the women's quarter-finals in last year's competition went to a third set, with Jelena Ostapenko, Veronika Kudermetova, Anhelina Kalinina and Elena Rybakina securing semi-final spots after victories over Paula Badosa, Zheng Qinwen, Beatriz Haddad Maia, and Iga Swiatek, respectively. In contrast, only one of the men's quarter-finals went to a third set, that being the match of the round which saw Holger Rune defeat top seed Novak Djokovic
