Season 1 Episode 2 of 2

Using previously classified KGB documents, the second part of this film explores how far Soviet leaders were willing to go to cover up the Chernobyl nuclear disaster of 1986, including exposing children to toxic fallout at the Kyiv May Day parade to prove to the world that all was fine. Featuring first-hand accounts from those who survived the blast, including Oleksiy Ananenko, who braved radioactive waters to prevent a deadlier second explosion and Maryna Sivets, whose unborn child's life was put at risk

Chernobyl: The New Evidence airs on More4 at 10:00 PM, Monday 22 April. (Subtitles, audio description.)
