Marvellous movie!
Martin Clunes - usually acting as a buffoon, excels in this role as a school teacher in a boarding school. The story of life in England past is touching and beautifully filmed and acted. Watchable time and time again!

Hats off to Martin Clunes!
Having only ever seen MC as a bumbling comedian, I was much taken by his acting ability in this film. The The period setting is beautifully done - quite reminescent of 'Dead Poets Society', and Clunes adds real gravitas to the role. Very Impressive!

Martin Clunes stars as an earnest Latin master working at the Brookfield School of the 1880s, where he meets and marries his true love Kathie and finds himself touched by politics, grief and the utter devastation of World War One. Charting more than 50 years of one man's extraordinary life, the story ends in the 1930s, as a wise, elderly and much-loved Mr Chipping lives out his last days in retirement. Frank Delaney's adaptation of James Hilton's timeless classic, which has never been out of print since first appearing as a magazine serialisation in 1934, and for which Robert Donat whipped an Oscar from under the nose of Gone with the Wind's Clark Gable in the 1939 film production. Also starring Victoria Hamilton, Conleth Hill and Patrick Malahide
