The last time we saw him, he had been shot with an arrow by John Sugden and then hit over the head with a rock.<\/p><div class=\"dbxgas:ad-container dbxgas:mpu-container dbxgas:block dbxgas:md:hidden\"><div class=\"dbxgas:slot\" data-ad-slot=\"inarticle-1st\"><\/div><\/div>\n<p>Despite the attack being very brutal, fans are still sure <a href=\"https:\/\/www.emmerdale-insider.com\/episode-recaps\/emmerdale-mack-really-dead-all-we-know-killer-john\/\">John didn\u2019t finish him off<\/a>, but is instead holding him hostage somewhere.<\/p>\n<p>And while Mack\u2019s fate remains unclear at the moment, it\u2019s definitely not the first time Emmerdale has suggested someone is dead when they actually aren\u2019t. Kim Tate in Emmerdale faked being dead \u2013 twice<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tvguide.co.uk\/emmerdale-insider\/tag\/kim-tate\">Kim Tate<\/a> is the one to turn to for tips on faking your death \u2013 she\u2019s done it twice!<\/p>\n<p>In February 1997, Kim went missing from the village. A few days later, a woman was found dead at the wheel of her car after plunging into a quarry. In May Kim waltzed back into <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tvguide.co.uk\/emmerdale-insider\/2024\/06\/28\/home-farm-list-everyone-whos-lived-there-tates-whites\/\">Home Farm<\/a> and told Frank she\u2019d paid a prostitute to drive around the village pretending to be her, when actually Kim was sunning herself in the Caribbean. The body belonged to that woman, not Kim. The prostitute hadn\u2019t been supposed to die, but she got stuck in the car and ended up making Kim\u2019s fake death look even more authentic.<\/p>\n<p>The shock caused Frank, who had been on remand for Kim\u2019s murder, to have a heart attack. Kim stood by and watched him die before uttering the immortal line: \u201cYou\u2019re a dinosaur, Frank, and you know what happened to them.\u201d She then checked he was dead with her compact mirror before redoing her make-up. Jamie Tate<\/h2>\n<p>So Jamie then decided to play his mother at her own game. After his poisoning attempts, Kim disowned and disinherited him. Then-girlfriend Dawn then ended it because he Jamie had tried to frame her dad, Will, for targeting Kim.<\/p>\n<p>With nothing left and determined to get his hands on Kim\u2019s money, Jamie offered to elope with Gabby so their baby (she was pregnant after a one-night stand) would get the money and therefore so would Jamie.<\/p>\n<p>However, Jamie soon decided he couldn\u2019t bear to be married to Gabby and asked Dawn to run away with him instead. She turned him down, so Jamie decided to flee to escape Gabby and Kim.<\/p><div class=\"dbxgas:ad-container dbxgas:double-mpu-container dbxgas:block dbxgas:md:hidden\"><div class=\"dbxgas:slot\" data-ad-slot=\"inarticle\"><\/div><\/div>\n<p>As he sped out of town, he drove off a cliff edge into a lake. The car was dredged up, but there was no sign of his body. Kim was sure he had faked his own death, but viewers had no idea whether he was actually gone or not.<\/p>\n<p>When his ex, Andrea, died months later, Kim organised a memorial hoping Jamie would come. Joe Tate also not dead in Emmerdale<\/h2>\n<p>It seems no one in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tvguide.co.uk\/emmerdale-insider\/2024\/06\/26\/tate-family-emmerdale-frank-kim-jamie-history-iconic-dynasty\/\">Tate family<\/a> has an original idea because Joe Tate, Kim\u2019s step-grandson also pulled off the trick.<\/p>\n<p>When Kim got out of prison, she ordered Joe dead and her henchman, Graham, urged Joe to flee. It meant Joe not turning up to marry Debbie Dingle, which sent her dad, Cain, into a fury. He punched Joe who fell and hit his head on a rock.<\/p>\n<p>Graham stepped in and said he would dispose of the body. But when he put Joe in the boot of the car, his hand twitched. Graham was loyal to Joe and was later seen sobbing at the wheel of his car before telling Kim the job was done.<\/p><div class=\"dbxgas:ad-container dbxgas:double-mpu-container dbxgas:block dbxgas:md:hidden\"><div class=\"dbxgas:slot\" data-ad-slot=\"inarticle\"><\/div><\/div>\n<p>It was presumed Joe was dead, but viewers weren\u2019t so sure. And it turned out they were right when five months later it was revealed Joe had escaped abroad and was living off money from Kim\u2019s businesses.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_3116\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3116\" style=\"width: 1500px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-3116 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.emmerdale-insider.com\/uploads\/2024\/08\/shutterstock_editorial_4938341fo-e1722613287356.jpg\" alt=\"Ross glares\" width=\"1500\" height=\"844\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-3116\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Pete thought his brother was dead, but Ross was alive and out for revenge (Credit: ITV\/Shutterstock)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2>5. Ross Barton<\/h2>\n<p>In 2015, Ross Barton was having an affair with his brother Pete\u2019s fianc\u00e9e Debbie Dingle. After a helicopter crashed on their wedding day, Debbie was taken to hospital where Pete confronted Ross.<\/p>\n<p>They fought in the hospital grounds and Pete charged at Ross, who hit his head on a stone wall. Pete continued to beat him until he realised his brother was dead. Desperate Pete drove Ross\u2019 body to the woods and buried it in a ditch covered with leaves.<\/p>\n<p>Viewers believed Ross was a goner, however, when Pete went back to get him with dad James three weeks later, they were stunned Ross was no longer there. In fact, he was in a coma in a hospital who thought his name was Stephen! Rebecca White<\/h2>\n<p>Rebecca and her nephew Lachlan were the only survivors of a crash that killed their family. She spent a month in a coma following the accident and was left with a brain injury. As she started to remember what had really happened \u2013 that Lachlan had been responsible for the deaths of his mother and grandfather \u2013 Lachlan knew he needed to silence her.<\/p><div class=\"dbxgas:ad-container dbxgas:double-mpu-container dbxgas:block dbxgas:md:hidden\"><div class=\"dbxgas:slot\" data-ad-slot=\"inarticle\"><\/div><\/div>\n<p>When Rebecca came across Robert Sugden and Liv Flaherty unconscious, Lachlan stopped her calling an ambulance. He was later seen in the woods clutching a bloody wrench. It was believed he had killed Rebecca.<\/p>\n<p>However, just a few days later we discovered Rebecca was alive and being held hostage in a wooden chalet. She then confronted Lachlan and tried to escape and he strangled her. Sadie King<\/h2>\n<p>Sadie King was ruthless and vengeful and she proved to be just that when she enlisted Cain Dingle to shoot her. Out for revenge on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tvguide.co.uk\/emmerdale-insider\/2024\/07\/23\/emmerdale-king-family-tree-tom-king-sons-jimmy-matthew-carl-max-tragic-demise\/\">King family<\/a>, who had left her with nothing, Sadie wanted what she believed was rightfully hers.<\/p>\n<p>Cain kidnapped her and Tom and shot Sadie, seemingly killing her. But actually she was still alive and it had all been staged. Rose Jackson<\/h2>\n<p>The last we saw of Dawn\u2019s mum, Will Taylor\u2019s ex-wife, Rose, she was stranded on the side of the road after Kim and Will had discovered her plot to split them up.<\/p><div class=\"dbxgas:ad-container dbxgas:double-mpu-container dbxgas:block dbxgas:md:hidden\"><div class=\"dbxgas:slot\" data-ad-slot=\"inarticle\"><\/div><\/div>\n<p>They told her to leave and never come back. They made her leave a message for Dawn saying she was going and then left her in the middle of nowhere. Rose sobbed over a picture drawn by her grandkids at the side of the road, but then looked relieved when a car \u2013 bearing the Home Farm logo \u2013 drove by and stopped for her.<\/p>\n<p>Was it friend or foe, however?<\/p>\n<p>It seems like the latter as the next we saw, Rose\u2019s belongings were strew by the side of the road and Rose was nowhere to be seen. Kim and Will simultaneously returned home looking pretty shifty and no one knew <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tvguide.co.uk\/emmerdale-insider\/2024\/08\/02\/emmerdale-theories-what-has-happened-rose-kim-will-ruby-dawn-frame-disappearance\/\">what had happened to Rose<\/a>.<\/p><div class=\"dbxgas:ad-container dbxgas:double-mpu-container dbxgas:block dbxgas:md:hidden\"><div class=\"dbxgas:slot\" data-ad-slot=\"inarticle\"><\/div><\/div>\n<p>Rose eventually <a href=\"https:\/\/www.emmerdale-insider.com\/uncategorised\/emmerdale-end-rose-whats-to-come-next\/\">turned up safe and well<\/a> \u2013 it had in fact been Dawn who had picked her up. Rose confessed everything and Dawn drove her mum to the airport to start fresh abroad. But she wanted Will to suffer for what he\u2019d done so didn\u2019t tell him what had really happened.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_45237\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-45237\" style=\"width: 2560px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-45237 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.emmerdale-insider.com\/uploads\/2025\/08\/Mack-is-targeted-by-John-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"Mack in Emmerdale\" width=\"2560\" height=\"1539\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-45237\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Is he really dead though? (Credit: ITV)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2>And now Mackenzie could be dead in Emmerdale?<\/h2>\n<p>So Mackenzie Boyd, who always suspected John Sugden wasn\u2019t who he was cracked up to be, found out John had in fact killed Nate. But when John realised he knew he took Mack for a drive, parked in the woods and ended up shooting him with an arrow.<\/p>\n<p>As Mack lay begging for his life, John said he knew Mack wouldn\u2019t let Aaron stay married to him, so had to protect himself. He picked up a large rock and supposedly smashed it down on Mackenzie\u2019s head.<\/p>\n<p>The next we saw blood in John\u2019s van and something resembling a body in his van. So it looked like Mack\u2019s days were numbered. Coupled with reports from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thesun.co.uk\/tv\/36211581\/emmerdale-mackenzie-boyd-murder-scenes-john-sugden\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Sun<\/a> Mack actor Lawrence Robb is leaving the soap and set to be killed off, it seemed like case closed.<\/p><div class=\"dbxgas:ad-container dbxgas:double-mpu-container dbxgas:block dbxgas:md:hidden\"><div class=\"dbxgas:slot\" data-ad-slot=\"inarticle\"><\/div><\/div>\n<p>However, there has been no body \u2013 a dead (pardon the pun!) giveaway in Soapland that all is not as it seems. There\u2019s also been no official goodbye from Lawrence and Emmerdale has kept quiet. So they clearly want to keep us guessing, which means he must still be alive \u2013 doesn\u2019t it?
