The Sugdens are Emmerdale\u2019s longest-running family and have been there since the very beginning. And once again in 2025 they are at the heart of the show as two half-brothers \u2013 Robert and John \u2013 go head-to-head for Aaron Dingle\u2019s love.<\/p>
Created by Kevin Laffan \u2013 the writer who dreamt up the idea of Emmerdale \u2013 the Sugdens were introduced during the first episode<\/a> and quickly established themselves as the show\u2019s central family.<\/p>\n In fact during the first two decades of Emmerdale being on air, the majority of storylines were focused around them.<\/p>\n The family was originally made up of widowed farmer Annie Sugden and her three grown up children, Jack Sugden, Peggy Skilbeck and Joe Sugden.<\/p> The clan came from a generation of agricultural workers. They resided in Emmerdale Farm<\/a>, which was located on the outskirts of the village, then called Beckindale.<\/p>
