ITV has announced a big behind-the-scenes change as Emmerdale<\/a> boss John Whiston has stepped down after 27 years.<\/p>

In his role as Managing Director of Continuing Drama and Head of ITV in the North, Whiston oversaw Emmerdale along with Coronation Street.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Whiston will step down at the end of the month. He passes the baton over to Iain MacLeod and Matt Cleary.<\/span><\/p>\n

John Whiston to retire from Emmerdale after 27 years<\/h2>\n

Whiston has worked in TV for over 40 years, the last 27 of which have been spent at ITV. During his time at ITV, he has worked on shows such as A Touch of Frost, Heartbeat, Lewis, Vera and The Chase.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

On his current role at ITV, a statement said: \u201cIn his current role, John has overseen the network\u2019s flagship soaps, Coronation Street and Emmerdale.<\/span><\/p>
