The drama has been high stakes \u2013 and I\u2019ve loved it!<\/p><div class=\"dbxgas:ad-container dbxgas:mpu-container dbxgas:block dbxgas:md:hidden\"><div class=\"dbxgas:slot\" data-ad-slot=\"inarticle-1st\"><\/div><\/div>\n<p>There have been complaints aplenty that it is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.emmerdale-insider.com\/news\/when-john-get-caught-aaron-leaving-emmerdale-fan-frustration-overdrive-want-answers\/\">dragging on too long<\/a> and has become boring and silly. Yes, John has an underground bunker \u2013 because of course he does, why wouldn\u2019t he?!<\/p>\n<p>It had definitely started to get a bit far-fetched before that, the bow and arrow in particular. Who has a bow and arrow just in their van?! But the bunker reveal was the moment that it really went all-out.<\/p>\n<p>John\u2019s now spent this week playing with Mack\u2019s life, trying to save him while also making it clear he\u2019s never going to let him go. John\u2019s confusion over how he could play the hero in this situation has been clear, but he has continued to insist he\u2019s a good guy, hence why he\u2019s keeping Mack alive.<\/p><section A master of technology if you will. He was able to use the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.emmerdale-insider.com\/news\/emmerdale-fans-call-out-plot-hole-john-fakes-mack-goodbye-note-wifi\/\">extremely good wifi<\/a> in his underground bunker to fake a voice note to Charity from Mack saying he was never coming back.<\/p>\n<p>Afterwards, John heard a voice note from Aaron telling Mack he had slept with Robert. His world falling apart, John drugged Aaron to keep him under his control.<\/p><div class=\"dbxgas:ad-container dbxgas:double-mpu-container dbxgas:block dbxgas:md:hidden\"><div class=\"dbxgas:slot\" data-ad-slot=\"inarticle\"><\/div><\/div><div data-ad-slot=\"ad-slot2\"><\/div>\n<p>But when Aaron accidentally ingested more than he should, he had a seizure \u2013 just as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.emmerdale-insider.com\/news\/emmerdale-spoilers-mackenzie-escapes-john-itvx-early-release-mack-still-die\/\">Mack also made his escape.<\/a> Forced to choose whether to save Aaron or keep Mack under lock and key, John chose the former.<\/p><div class=\"my-5 boxout\"><div><h2 class=\"!text-2xl p-3 !my-0 bg-[var(--color-v-primary)]\">Don't miss a single story! (Credit: ITV)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2>Viewers start to complain<\/h2>\n<p>All of this has sparked comments from viewers that they\u2019ve had enough.<\/p><div class=\"dbxgas:ad-container dbxgas:double-mpu-container dbxgas:block dbxgas:md:hidden\"><div class=\"dbxgas:slot\" data-ad-slot=\"inarticle\"><\/div><\/div>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s getting more annoying by the minute,\u201d raged one on Facebook. \u201cTalk about stringing a storyline out,\u201d added another.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s gone on too long now everyone is really fed up with this storyline, please finish it now,\u201d agreed a third.<\/p>\n<p>And yes, while all of this is true, we have reached the crescendo and the more out there is gets, the better as far as I am concerned.<\/p><div class=\"dbxgas:ad-container dbxgas:double-mpu-container dbxgas:block dbxgas:md:hidden\"><div class=\"dbxgas:slot\" data-ad-slot=\"inarticle\"><\/div><\/div>\n<figure id=\"attachment_23857\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-23857\" style=\"width: 1024px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-23857 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.emmerdale-insider.com\/uploads\/2025\/01\/00_emmerdale_meena_trial-scaled-1-1024x695.jpg\" alt=\"Meena Jutla in court in Emmerdale\" width=\"1024\" height=\"695\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-23857\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Meena was a mega villain and we loved her (Credit: ITV)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2>John Sugden is becoming just like Meena Jutla in Emmerdale \u2013 and I love it!<\/h2>\n<p>With a storyline like this, as with serial killer Meena\u2019s reign of terror a few years ago, Emmerdale has to nail its colours to the mast so to speak. They have to say: \u2018this is one we\u2019re going to run with\u2019.<\/p><div class=\"dbxgas:ad-container dbxgas:double-mpu-container dbxgas:block dbxgas:md:hidden\"><div class=\"dbxgas:slot\" data-ad-slot=\"inarticle\"><\/div><\/div>\n<p>The action this week shows that\u2019s exactly what they are doing with John Sugden.<\/p>\n<p>Emmerdale has proved time and time again they can do serious, issue-based storylines. Look at the power of Ruby\u2019s rape by her father and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.emmerdale-insider.com\/episode-recaps\/what-happened-emmerdale-tonight-tom-guilty-belle-finally-got-justice\/\">Belle\u2019s domestic abuse by husband<\/a>, Tom King. April\u2019s homelessness and Marlon\u2019s stroke are others that have struck a chord in recent years.<\/p>\n<p>But what Emmerdale can also do \u2013 and do so well \u2013 is the over the top drama. There\u2019s no issue here, there\u2019s just a man with a very bizarre need to hurt people so he can be the hero. And, just like Meena before him, now Emmerdale has run with it, they need to take it as far as they possibly can.<\/p><div class=\"dbxgas:ad-container dbxgas:double-mpu-container dbxgas:block dbxgas:md:hidden\"><div class=\"dbxgas:slot\" data-ad-slot=\"inarticle\"><\/div><\/div>\n<p>So I have loved this week as it got crazier and crazier. Bring on next week\u2019s clifftop plunge, have them survive against all odds, give Mack another life alongside the 999 he\u2019s already had and send John totally crazy. Give him one last hurrah and then bring him back for more in a several year\u2019s time.<\/p>\n<p>Soap is as much about escapism as it is real life and I think this is exactly that. There\u2019s enough going on in real life to feel miserable about, so let\u2019s have a bit of entertainment from the soaps as well as issues.<\/p>\n<p>So for now, I say, bring on John Sugden, the more the better!
