When you think of Emmerdale, you think of Eric Pollard<\/a> and his family. As the longest-serving character in the soap, Eric has been a resident of the village for nearly 40 years.<\/p>

He arrived in the Dales on September 30, 1986, and quickly made his mark as a villainous schemer.<\/p>\n

Over the years, Eric\u2019s family have entered the picture. To date, Eric has been married five times. His fifth wife, and one true love Valerie Pollard, left him a widower after she died in 2015.<\/p>\n

Most recently he has been with Brenda Walker, but he ruined everything when he left her broke. She has since gone on a world cruise and now Eric is struggling to cope alone with his worsening Parkinson\u2019s. Proof if ever it was needed axing Brenda<\/a> was the wrong decision.<\/p>

Meanwhile, Eric\u2019s son, David Metcalfe, also spent 17 years in the Dales, and gave Eric his two grandchildren, Amba and Theo, as well as step-grandson Jacob. Only Jaco remains to look after ailing Eric.<\/p>
