David Lean, one of Britain's truly great directors does his best with this non-affair nonsense. Oddly cautious it seems a sentimental appeal for conformity dressed up as 'duty' in the aftermath of WWII. A historic moment when the country's value systems were to be challenged by the survivors.

Kardomah Caper.
One of the greatest British Movies ever from a bygone age when men wore suits and ties all the time, and women really did lunch. Celia Johnson is desparate to break out of her dull but safe routine with handsome Trevor Howard. We've all been there surely? The scene where the couple are about to make love before being disturbed by Howards friend is a shocking moment, at least it was when the movie was released. I suspect that many moviegoers could relate to this movie when it came out, it is a wonderful snapshot of how austere Britain was back then, and it has to be said, much simpler and straightforward. Watch and enjoy. The Kardomah is a relic of the past, these days I suppose the assignation would take place in McDonalds !!!!!
