Better on the small screen
The crossover of Kirk's final outing on The Enterprise and Picard's suffering from a family disaster, was a bit of a damp squib on the big screen, but seems to work much better on the small screen. Much was made of the Star Trek curse affecting every other movie, or the odd numbered ones, and this was number 7. To be fair, I don't think it is that much worse than its immediate predecessor, The Undiscovered Country. Perhaps this was an episode that never got made during the time of the Next Generation series, but certainly the action scenes and special effects are what you would expect from a Star Trek movie. The real problem however is the Nexus plot and how Kirk and Picard come to work together in Picard's time - a plot twist so flimsy, I could pilot a starship through it - and I'm not even an Ensign...

Mismatch
A good movie but also a weird mixture of two "generations" of Trek.
