The Shakespeare family faces a bleak Christmas in light of a recent tragedy, until a visit from a mysterious stranger (Kenneth Branagh) bearing a tale of hope and redemption. The encounter gives Will a new sense of purpose and he is inspired to try to convince his greatest enemy, Robert Greene, to change his wicked ways. Hitting on a brilliant new idea for a story a few centuries early, he arranges for Greene to be visited at midnight by three ghosts, who will persuade him to be kinder to his long-suffering servant.
