Festival Review

In a festival special, Talking Movies circles the cinematic globe taking in the Venice, Telluride and Toronto Film Festivals. From Venice, Emma Jones reports on the big films making headlines at the world-famous Venice Film Festival, including the Golden Lion winner Father Mother Sister Brother, starring Cate Blanchett, and the well-received mixed martial arts drama The Smashing Machine, directed by Benny Safdie and starring Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson. Tom Brook also reports from the increasingly influential Telluride Film Festival in Colorado, where he meets rising stars Paul Mescal and Josh O'Connor, who star in drama The History of Sound and previews a new modern adaptation of Hamlet with its star Riz Ahmed. And Alan Moloney looks at the British and Irish films and actors making waves at the Toronto International Film Festival - a festival often recognised as being an early indicator for Oscar glory.

Talking Movies airs on BBC News HD at 1:30 PM, Saturday 20 September. (Subtitles.)
