The other four are left to produce a showstopper dish in just 90 minutes - hoping it will be enough to get them through

The first three remaining semi-finalists battle it out for a place in final, and are given the chance to work alongside one of the UK's most exciting chefs, Gareth Ward. First, the chefs are challenged to create a dish of their own design for Gareth to taste, inspired by his own cooking. The competitors will then take on the daunting task of joining Gareth's brigade, taking responsibility for two dishes each during a highly-pressurised service, before returning to the MasterChef kitchen to present a dish of their own design to the judges

The last semi-final sees the remaining hopefuls head to Ollie Dabbous's London restaurant Hide, where they receive a masterclass from the Michelin-starred chef in making his beef tartare. He then asks them to create a dish from the restaurant's select larder before they are each given responsibility for one of the dishes during a packed service. Back at the studio, a final test awaits in which the hopefuls must cook two dishes for Gregg Wallace, Marcus Wareing and Monica Galetti, who decide who will go through to next week's finals

In the penultimate challenge, the four remaining chefs are challenged to create a single exceptional dish, inspired by a place that is special to them, as they fight to secure their place in the final three. After one contestant is sent home, the three remaining chefs travel to Lisbon to experience cooking alongside the acclaimed chef José Avillez. First, they take a trip to an historical food market, where they find ingredients to create their own dish for Chef José to taste, before joining José's brigade of chefs during a packed lunchtime service
