'Bravo' declare Emmerdale fans after 'horrible' Charity episode, but others insist they've 'gone too far'

Charity has been left devastated by Todd

Emmerdale aired an extra episode tonight – and boy did it hit hard as Charity Dingle was sexually assaulted by Dr Caitlyn Todd.

In scenes which left fans disgusted, Dr Todd undid an unconcious Charity’s trousers and assaulted her. Charity woke up and told her to stop.

Charity assaulted by Dr Todd in harrowing Emmerdale scenes

Having been unable to raise the money to pay off Dr Todd and keep the secret about Leyla safe, drunk Charity lashed out at her blackmailer on Sunday, June 7.

She told her she might as well just reveal the truth and conceded she’d lost.

Surprisingly, Dr Todd actually backed down. She realised she couldn’t destroy Sarah’s life. She also admitted to enjoying the chaos of Charity’s life.

It seemed, for just a moment, that Charity’s secret was safe and the two women had called a truce.

But that was not to be when things turned really dark…

Todd leaned in to kiss Charity, but Charity rebuffed her and then laughed at her being desperate. That did not go down well with Todd.

As Charity passed out on the sofa, Todd looked like she was leaving. But instead, she locked the door and lay down next to Charity.

Although the scene only showed their faces, the implication was that Todd had undone Charity’s jeans and proceeded to sexually assault her.

Charity’s eyes flew open and she told her to stop. Todd smirked and quietly left.

Fans react

The scenes, although not explicit were a really hard watch. And fans watching at home were totally divided over what they had seen.

“Bravo Emmerdale for daring to show what does happen in real life,” said one. “To the complainers, nothing was shown, your imagination did the rest.”

Another added: “The final scene of Emmerdale is a hard watch… kudos to Caroline [Harker], not an easy thing to act… and kudos to Emma [Atkins], who broke my heart with a facial expression alone… whilst I hate that they’ve put Charity through this again, there’s no-one more talented than EA to portray it.”

“Omg that was horrific to watch. I didn’t think it would be so graphic but it is such an important topic to cover. You very rarely see female-on-female SA covered on tv. Emma and Caroline are doing an amazing job even though it’s horrific to watch!”

A fourth said: “Tonight’s Emmerdale is an extremely difficult watch but it was handled absolutely perfectly. Amazing performances from Emma Atkins and Caroline Harker and the directing of the end scene by Yvonne Wells and Haley Muraleedharan was outstanding. Please take care when watching.”

Others thought the Charity assault scene in Emmerdale was too much

But while there were those who thought it was important, others felt it all too much.

“We didn’t need to see a [sexual assault] in prime time,” commented one.

A second agreed: “Ok Emmerdale has gone too far.” A third added: “GET THAT SICK WITCH OUT OF Emmerdale OMG! In what universe is it okay to SHOW something like that???”

Coronation Street’s Catherine Tyldesley steps away from the cobbles already in surprise pause for Eva Price

Catherine Tyldesley only returned to Coronation Street as Eva Price last year but she's already planning a break.

Eva Price's return put her right at the heart of the soap alongside her family - The Driscolls. The family took over the iconic Rovers pub and hasn't shied away from the drama.

But, Eva looks set to leave her family to cope without her for a little while as Catherine Tyldesley heads off to film scenes on another show.

Catherine Tyldesley to 'take break' from Coronation Street as Eva Price

As well as playing the role of Eva Price in Weatherfield, Catherine Tyldesley also plays the role of First Officer Kate Woods on the much sunnier show The Good Ship Murder.

She's done well to juggle both roles but the time has come to exit the murder drama for the moment.

To do so though, Catherine will be taking a 'short break' from Coronation Street. This means that she can head back to the Good Ship set and film her exit scenes.

A source told The Sun: "Cath spoke to her bosses at Corrie about taking some time off to film her Good Ship exit and they agreed.

“When she agreed to return to the soap there was a lot of uncertainty about whether or not she would be able to go back, but fortunately it’s all working out.

“There was talk about possibly killing off her character but in the end bosses decided that she would get a happy ending."

Catherine is expected to begin filming her exit scenes in the coming months as part of Season 4 of the show.

She'll then return to Coronation Street to pick up where she left off as Eva. Phew.

Eva Price's chaotic return to Coronation Street

Eva Price rocked up back on the cobbles towards the end of 2025 as her husband Ben announced that he'd bought the Rovers for her.

Chaos erupted though when she realised that Maggie's money had been used for the purchase. And, she wanted to be the landlady.

A deal was eventually agreed upon, but this didn't stop Maggie from making her dislike of Eva known. She didn't think Eva was good enough for Ben.

As well as this, a past baby secret threatened to divide Ben and Eva. And, Will Driscoll's concerning behaviour has also caused a stir.

The teen has been groomed by his gym coach Megan Walsh and is currently seeing her in secret.

2026 is set to bring even more drama for the family. So, it looks like Eva could well do with a brief break from Weatherfield actually!
