Does John die and will Robert go back to prison? What happens next after dramatic Emmerdale cliffhanger

Is it all over for Johnny Boy?

Thursday’s episode of Emmerdale saw a dramatic cliffhanger as Robert lashed out at John, leaving him for dead. Will Robert be sent back to prison?

Since his release from jail, Robert Sugden has been desperate to bring John down as he is convinced his half-brother is hiding something.

During Wednesday’s episode, John planted a listening device in Robert’s living room and discovered that Robert had been the one to steal the weed. Tonight he used that information and turned everyone against Robert.

A furious Robert soon got his revenge, but what will happen next?

Robert lashed out at John in Emmerdale

After discovering that Robert had been the one to steal Lewis, Mack and Ross’s weed stash, John Sugden shared the information with Ross.

Meanwhile, Moira let slip to Robert that John had previously saved Cain’s life. When Robert and John met in the pub, Robert mentioned how “Johnny Boy” was a permanent superhero, having saved Chas, Jacob and now Cain.

But the banter was short-lived and Robert was accosted by Ross. Ross revealed to the whole pub what Robert had done. He also pointed out that this meant Robert was also inadvertently responsible for Kyle being scared by the intruders at Butler’s Farm.

As Victoria, Aaron, Mack and Moira took turns abusing Robert, John stepped in to try and defuse the situation. He said Robert just needed some professional help.

Later on at home, Robert tried to convince Victoria that John was gaslighting them all, but to no avail. He headed out and came across John. As John mocked him, Robert saw red and insisted he was going to outsmart him.

A tussle soon ensued, with John grabbing Robert round the neck as he told him: “You don’t want to end up back in prison begging for your life, do you? Cos that is exactly what will happen if you try and come after me.”

As John went to walk away, Robert grabbed a spanner from the floor and bashed John around the head with it. To be fair, he had it coming.

As John was rushed to hospital, Robert was seen packing a bag before jumping in the car and driving off.

What happens next in Emmerdale?

At the end of the episode it was revealed that John had been stabilised. Spoilers for next week involve both John and Robert.

As for Robert, spoilers for next week reveal that John tries to persuade a skeptical Aaron to go easy on Robert. This suggests John does not remember Robert attacking him – or at least pretends to not remember.

An uncomfortable encounter at the shop leads to John leaving, while Robert attempts to clear the air with Aaron over coffee.

When Robert hints at leaving, Aaron reassures him he’s valued, giving Robert hope. Later, Moira confronts Robert about her land but leaves when Victoria arrives.

Robert talks to Victoria and suggests they farm Annie’s field together. But how will she respond?

‘He’s making a fool of himself’: The Apprentice fans left ‘howling’ by Lord Sugar’s random social media posts

Lord Sugar's X/Twitter account is mostly used to promote The Apprentice – but his other posts have left fans confused.

Tonight (April 9), the final five candidates of series 20 will be grilled by Sugar's advisors in the notorious semi-final of The Apprentice.

He has been posting several tweets to promote the upcoming episode, like Claude Littner's legendary "sail boats" interview and a clip of the late Stuart Baggs, a former candidate.

However, he also likes to quote-tweet and reply to posts you wouldn't necessarily expect, and fans have been "laughing out loud" reading them.

Lord Sugar's 'brilliant' random tweets

Sugar replies to a wide variety of tweets. For example, he answered a maths puzzle involving a nectarine and an apple. He has also replied to a specific user (@WorkElizab) on a couple of occasions, including a post asking if they should repaint an antique cabinet.

"No get it re-polished," he replied.

On two occasions, he's replied to tweets asking what he'd do if he woke up in the '70s and '80s, saying he'd buy Apple and Amstrad shares.

He also replied to a post that showed two bottles of glue and was captioned, "If you know what this is, you're officially old. Sorry." He simply wrote, "Glue."

The best one has been deleted, but screenshots have been shared on X and Reddit. A post asked, "If a woman sleeps with 10 men, she's a slut, but if a man does it... he's???"

Sugar didn't interpret the question as others might; you could argue it's asking what the perception of a man sleeping with 10 women is.

He took it literally, so he replied: "Gay."

The Apprentice fans divided by 'embarrassing' social media posts

Some users think Sugar should be spending his time doing something else. "Why don’t you try wordle or globle if you’re really this bored, far better use of your brain than answering the clickbait bleedin’ obvious," one user commented.

"Honestly it’s mad how no one’s told him to stop, he’s making a total fool of himself," another wrote. "Have you got nothing better to do? All the money in the world and this is how you spend your time, embarrassing," a third added.

Others think it's harmless – and it helps that they're funny.

"This was the first thing in a long while that has really endeared him to me," one wrote on Reddit.

"His Twitter is just every Dad's social media, it's great," another wrote. "Probably what he gets up to at the end of the day. Looks like he's having fun," a third commented.

"Brilliant! Just having some time by himself on Twitter and providing great entertainment haha," another wrote.
