Emmerdale follow-up: As Robert Sugden returns to soap, what this means for Aaron and John explored

Will Aaron still marry John?

Robert Sugden made a huge return to Emmerdale this evening (Wednesday, May 28) after six years away from the Dales, interrupting Aaron and John’s wedding.

Just as Aaron Dingle and John Sugden were about to tie the knot, Aaron’s former husband entered the wedding venue.

But, what will this mean for Aaron and John’s future? And, why is Robert back in the Dales?

Robert Sugden’s return to Emmerdale

This evening in the Dales, John followed Aaron back to the flat and begged him to reconsider marrying him.

Aaron thought that John was still in love with Aidan Moore and called off the wedding, but John told him he’d only gone to visit him because Aidan’s mum had begged him to.

Aidan had woke up asking for him, but Aaron shouldn’t worry as he was basically brain dead. If only he knew the whole truth of it…

With the grooms nowhere to be seen, they were cutting it fine if they still wanted the wedding to go ahead. But, just in the nick of time, they turned up at the Woolpack and revealed that they still wanted to get wed. Oh Aaron, that wasn’t the best decision.

As they made it down the aisle, the pair were about to tie the knot but just before they did, someone entered the venue and interrupted things. Someone we’ve all missed over the last six years. The ‘love of Aaron’s life,’ Robert Sugden has returned.

‘Did you miss me?’ We think Aaron’s head might just be turned back to his ‘one true love’ in no time… Well, we’re all hoping that’s the case anyway!

Ryan Hawley teases what to expect next as Aaron and John impacted

With Robert turning up out of the blue (and here’s us all thinking he was still in prison), fans will most likely be wondering what this means for Aaron and John

Actor Ryan Hawley has now teased what’s to come as he opens up about his stint back on the show.

He shared: “Robert’s back after six years! And a lot has happened during this time in the village and for Robert. Two very different worlds, the village and Robert’s reality in prison. And out of the blue, just in the nick of time, Robert turns up at Aaron’s wedding to John.

“It sets up a fantastic few episodes to finish off the wedding week which shows how the incident of Robert turning up will resolve itself. It’s a massive dilemma for Aaron, who’s found John as a new love in his life and then he’s got Robert, who used to be the love of his life, turn up! He’s got a massive decision to make. I guess all the weight is on Aaron’s shoulders. What’s Robert doing there, has he got ulterior motives, does he know something about John? How has he even found out that this wedding was taking place? There’s alot to unpick and so much to be revealed over the next few nights. It’s a great few episodes and I’m really excited to see them.”

And, is Robert back for good? Ryan hinted: “Well Ryan is back, but Robert is still technically in prison so we shall have to wait and see how that works out!”

Gemma Collins Four Weddings and a Baby reality show overview

Reality star Gemma Collins is preparing to open the doors to the most personal chapter of her life yet in a brand-new Sky reality series - Gemma Collins: Four Weddings and a Baby.

The show will follow the former The Only Way Is Essex favourite as she plans her dream wedding to fiancé Rami Hawash and embarks on her long-awaited journey to motherhood.

When does Gemma Collins: Four Weddings and a Baby start, and how many episodes will there be?

The programme will be an eight-part docuseries and will debut on Sky Max and streaming service NOW in 2026.

While the show is confirmed for next year, an exact release date has not yet been announced.

What is the series about?

The show will follow the former The Only Way Is Essex star as she prepares to marry fiancé Rami Hawash and begins her journey toward motherhood.

The couple have had an on-and-off relationship since meeting in 2011. Rami famously proposed during a romantic getaway in the Maldives in 2024.

Now, cameras will follow Gemma behind the scenes for a year as she plans the wedding she has always dreamed of, while also exploring IVF in hopes of welcoming a baby.

Speaking about the project, Gemma said, "This really is the most important year of my life. For the first time people will get to see the Gemma behind the GC."

She continued, "Over the next year I will be planning my wedding and beginning the steps into starting a family."

The reality star added that the show will reveal a much more personal side of her life.

"I’ve always felt natural in front of the cameras. But now I want to let the world see the real raw me sharing the most intimate and personal times in my life."

Gemma's hopes of marriage and motherhood

Gemma has long spoken about wanting to become a mum and has been open about her struggles with fertility. Over the years she has suffered three heartbreaking miscarriages, including one in 2012 and two in 2020.

Despite the pain she has experienced, the star remains hopeful about the future.

In a social media post earlier this year, Gemma confirmed she plans to both get married and start a family in 2026.

She wrote, "Yes I’m getting married this year and YES I’m having a baby."

Previously, Gemma admitted she had sometimes worried motherhood might not happen for her.

"It’s just not happened for me," she told The Sun in 2023. "I don’t know if I want to go down the road of IVF because I’m a firm believer that if it happens, it happens."

However, the new series will see her exploring different options, including IVF, as she begins the next chapter of her life.

Who is Gemma's partner, Rami Hawash?

Unlike Gemma, who has spent years in the public eye, businessman Rami Hawash tends to keep a lower profile. Rami runs a car repair and mechanical services business in Essex, though he has previously appeared briefly on The Only Way Is Essex.

The couple first began dating in 2011 and became engaged two years later before splitting in 2014. However, they rekindled their romance in 2020. Rami proposed again during a lavish Maldives trip in February 2024.

Gemma later described the romantic moment, saying, "It was such a beautiful moment."

The proposal included hundreds of roses arranged across a private beach and lights spelling out "Will you marry me?"

Rami also has a son, Tristan, from a previous relationship, whom Gemma has warmly embraced as part of their blended family.

First look at the series

The reality star first revealed the project in August 2025, sharing the news with fans on Instagram.

Alongside a photo of herself surrounded by a camera crew, Gemma wrote, "Can’t believe the news is finally out about my new series with SkyTV.

"This time it’s different. I’m putting my heart on the line. No filters, no walls, just the real me."

Production company Navybee also teased that the series will show Gemma in a more vulnerable light than ever before.

Creative director Demi Doyle said, "This brand new series will capture her at her most real and most vulnerable, as she steps into the biggest chapter of her life yet."

Meanwhile Shirley Jones said the show would reveal a different side to the star.

"Audiences know her for her humour and sparkling personality. But this show will reveal a more personal side as she plans her wedding and embarks on the journey to start a family."

Earlier this month, Gemma took to Instagram again to give fans a teaser of what to expect. In one Instagram Story snap, Gemma shared a photo of a cameraman sitting opposite her, captioned, "Lights, camera, action."

In another, a crew member could be seen filming in her kitchen. "So excited for you to see my new show," she teased. "One year in the making."
