Grosse Pointe Garden Society ending: What really happened to ‘Quiche’ as fans left furious by unresolved storyline

Grosse Pointe Garden Society is available to stream in the UK for the first time since its 2025 US debut, and many of you have already binged it until its controversial ending.

A "suburban thriller from acclaimed creators Jenna Bans and Bill Krebs", the whodunit is set within the "pristine, tightly-managed world of an affluent suburban garden club". Perfect for fans of Big Little Lies, and Desperate Housewives, viewers were introduced to four members of a well-to-do garden club.

They found their lives "intertwined by scandal, mischief, and a murder that no-one wants to talk". But the dark secrets they all held started to eat away at them – a bit like poor Quiche's body being slowly chomped on by worms in the compost bin.

So who were Alice, Catherine, Brett, and Birdie burying in the garden on the night of the garden club's annual gala? And why? Here's the ending of dramedy Grosse Pointe Garden Society explained.

***Warning: spoilers from the Grosse Pointe Garden Society ending ahead***

Who was Quiche, and who killed him?

Well, no one killed Quiche. Or rather Keith as he was actually named. In Grosse Pointe Garden Society, the dead body was nicknamed Quiche for want of a better endearment. Viewers saw the main characters stuff his dead body in the compost bin within their town's community garden.

The body was later revealed to be Marilyn's husband Keith – not Connor as many had hoped – and his death was at the centre of the murder mystery. Although it wasn't actually murder.

Keith actually died accidentally. He impaled himself on a garden tool during a confrontation with his wife. To be precise, Keith stumbled backward and killed himself on a spiked garden tool (a woodchipper) during a struggle over a quilt in the shed… But it wasn't just any quilt. Keith was trying to stop wife Marilyn from shredding her mother-in-law Patty's quilt. Keith had just helped his mum win it at the auction. So why destroy a seemingly harmless quilt? Because Alice was convinced Patty had killed her cat, and the neighbours decided to have their petty revenge.

Yes, Molly the cat had an unlikely pivotal role! However, Patty was NOT responsible for Molly's death (more on that below).

Following the accidentally death, Birdie, Brett, Catherine, and Alice moved the body to a compost bin and tried to forget it had ever happened.

However, guilt began to eat away at the characters. The season focused on the consequences of their actions, exploring themes of hidden guilt and the fallout of trying to cover up the tragic accident.

Who killed Alice’s dog Molly?

The garden club's president Marilyn was exposed as the killer of Alice's dog. Marilyn called Alice to the house to help track down the missing quilt. Once there, Alice accidentally spilled a drink and needed to look for paper towels under the kitchen sink. And that's when she saw Molly's blue bandana.

However, like the death of Quiche, Molly's unfortunate demise was also an accident. When Marilyn heard her beloved (supposedly indoor) cat Mr Fingers fighting with something in the garden, she assumed it was a coyote. It was dark, and Marilyn shot her gun into the bushes. But actually, Mr Fingers had been fighting with Molly, not a coyote – and the gunshot killed Molly. Marilyn then called Patty to help clean up the incident.

After a guilty Marilyn eventually came clean, Alice realised that she couldn't hide from her own guilt anymore. She went to the police to turn herself in over her involvement in Quiche's death, and the concealment of his body.

What happened to the private investigator in the Grosse Pointe Garden Society ending?

Viewers will know that a private investigator had been blackmailing the group. However, he conveniently suffered a heart attack as he was threatening them – leaving the protagonists with uncertain legal and moral consequences. Would they leave him to die and shove him in a compost bin, too?

They eventually did the right thing and ultimately saved him. They got him to the hospital after performing CPR.

Series ended on a cliffhanger

Season 1 of Grosse Pointe Garden Society ended with a tease for series 2. The final episode ended with a "next season" teaser. In the preview, viewers saw the group confronting an unknown person who had betrayed their trust.

Events jumped about six months to Halloween. At the 'Spooktacular' event, viewers saw Birdie, Catherine, and Brett wrapped up in a new mystery. But where was Alice? And who was the duck tied up in the chair?

Sadly, NBC cancelled the series shortly after. Of course, that means that all those unanswered questions would stay unanswered. Fans were left enraged.

What else happened in the ending of Grosse Pointe Garden Society?

  • The finale saw the relationship between mother and son Birdie and Ford truly blossoming, as he shared his news about college.
  • Birdie was pregnant by Joel, who may or may not have been under suspicion as well.
