Gone series 2: ITV confirms Eve Myles will be back as DS Annie Cassidy with Keeley Hawes joining her in the cast
Oh this is a double act we need to see!
Gone, the excellent crime drama starring Eve Myles as DS Annie Cassidy, is coming back for a series 2 ITV has confirmed.
It’s yet another success under the belt of the always brilliant Welsh actress. This time, however, her series 1 co-star David Morrissey will be replaced by another television fan favourite…
Creator and writer George Kay is back with another compelling crime, and we can share some of the details of the upcoming drama…
Here’s everything we know so far about Gone series 2, including plot, cast, location, and start date.

Is there a series 2 of Gone on ITV?
ITV has commissioned a second six-part series of the critically acclaimed drama Gone. And we’re here for it.
Gone series 2 will see Eve Myles return to investigate a new case as tenacious Detective Sergeant Annie Cassidy.
Series 1 of the psychological cat and mouse drama pitched heavyweights David Morrissey and Eve Myles against each other. Local Headmaster Michael Polly became the prime suspect in his wife Sarah’s disappearance. And it was Annie’s job to find out who committed the crime.
It was quite brilliant and, unsurprisingly, “eclipsed all streaming records on ITVX”. It remains one of the highest new dramas to launch on the platform with 31 million streams.
What’s the plot of Gone series 2?
ITV are keeping much of what happens in Gone series 2 hush-hush right now. But they have released some tantalising details.
We know that, this time, Annie investigates another tricky case. This time, Dr Ruth Manning is under the microscope…
Ruth is a “pre-eminent and devoted paediatric surgeon working at Bristol’s Makeway Hospital”. She comes into the crosshairs of DS Annie Cassidy when it becomes apparent that, for the greater good of her patients, she could be hiding the dark truth about a series of historical crimes.

Who’s in the cast?
Eve Myles is back as the immensely likeable DS Annie Cassidy. Of course, she’s best known for her roles in Torchwood, Keeping Faith, The Crow Girl, and Coldwater.
She said: “I can’t wait to get back to Annie! A very special project and character. I’m really excited to explore a new story with a brilliant cast!”
Three-time BAFTA-nominee Keeley Hawes joins the second series as Dr Ruth Manning. Fans will know her from Miss Austen, The Durrells, Spooks, and Bodyguard.
Writer George Kay said: “I’m thrilled to be back in the world of DS Annie Cassidy, played by Eve Myles, who brings such wit and depth to all her roles. This time she’ll be trying to find the truth about the character of Ruth Manning, a high-end paediatric surgeon played by the brilliant Keeley Hawes, who I’ve hoped to work with for so long and now finally get the chance.”
ITV will release further details about casting nearer the time, but it’s unlikely many of the cast of series 1 will be back. And that includes David Morrissey. After all, his plotline was all wrapped up in the Gone series 1 ending.
‘Annie investigates a new case in another emotionally truthful and surprising story’
ITV Commissioner Polly Hill told us: “We had a phenomenal response to Gone, which was a testament to George Kay’s brilliant scripts. We are delighted that George will bring the audience another series and a new case for Annie Cassidy.
“In series 2, Dr Ruth Manning is under the microscope, played by the wonderful Keeley Hawes. Once again George’s brilliant storytelling takes you into the heart of a family unravelling as Annie investigates a new case in another emotionally truthful and surprising story.
“Produced by Willow Grylls and New Pictures and Observatory Pictures, we are so proud of this drama and delighted to give the audience more.”

Gone series 2 filming locations
Cast and crew will beging filming in Bristol in 2027.
Is Gone a true story?
Gone is partly inspired by the book To Hunt a Killer and the real-life work of former Detective Superintendent Julie Mackay and ITV Crime Correspondent Robert Murphy.
They both serve as consultants on the production.
When is the start date?
Don’t get too excited just yet. ITV has only just announced Gone series 2, so it’ll be a while coming.
Production start filming in 2027 and, if we’re lucky, the series might also land on ITV later next year.
