Great British Bake Off's Molly breaks silence about the height of her worktop after spilling biscuit mixture in her lap
Molly uses a wheelchair to get aroundGreat British Bake Off contestant Molly Chauhan set the record straight about the height of her worktop in the tent.
Molly, 31. uses a wheelchair and is often seen with her mixing bowl resting in her lap as she makes her bakes.
Last week, Molly accidentally dropped her cake on the floor, sparking concerns from fans.
The amateur baker was then seen in this week’s episode with chocolate biscuit mixture smeared all over her apron.
“Look at that,” Molly said, as she made her mosaic Showstopper. “This is one of the downsides of baking in a wheelchair. Your lap gets absolutely covered.”
Viewers were once again quick to share their worries about Molly’s worktop being “too high”.
Writing on X, one concerned fan said: “Has #gbbo really not sorted wheelchair-user Molly an adjustable height/low work bench? Why the heck is she having to mix in her lap?”
Another added: “Why couldn’t Molly have a countertop height that suits her? #GBBO.”
But Molly has now spoken out, insisting her individual GBBO kitchen space is laid out exactly as she wanted it.
She’s also let slip a huge secret about a “guardian angel” that viewers won’t ever see…
Great British Bake Off’s Molly speaks out about worktop height
Molly has recorded a video in her own kitchen at home following the online reaction to her Great British Bake Off stint. In it, she compares her own adapted kitchen to her space in the tent.
Molly, who herself works as an accessibility coordinator, wrote alongside the Instagram clip: “There’s been a bit of talk about my set up and whether or not it was suitable for me.
“But I can categorically say that I LOVED that bench set up and part of the reason I ended up with cake on the floor was because I felt so empowered by my set up that I convinced myself I could do everything by myself!
“If I had that set up at home I’d probably never leave the kitchen!”
Molly then talked through her experience on Bake Off, saying: “I actually had an incredible set up.”
She said her bench WAS lowered, adding: “It had an empty space beneath it, which meant I could roll right up to it.
“It was amazing and made things so much easier. The lowered bench gets a ten out of ten.”
‘Guardian angel’
Molly then revealed that she had an “guardian angel” at all times while she was baking. This was an assistant who was positioned just out of view of the camera lens.
Molly shared a picture of someone holding one of her cakes for her while on set.
She concluded: “I was comfortable, confident and safe at all times in that tent.
“If I could have brought some of those bits home, I would have done. But I couldn’t get it in my bag!”
