Great British Bake Off judge Nigella Lawson has turned viewers’ tummies with a “grim” habit.

The popular TV chef, 66, has been brought onto the Channel 4 show to critique the contestants’ bakes alongside Paul Hollywood.

Her signing comes following Prue Leith’s exit earlier this year.

But fans are struggling to look past Nigella talking to Paul and the contestants with her mouth full.

Great British Bake Off fans call Nigella Lawson out for ‘grim’ habit

Last night (Tuesday October 6, 2026), it was Audience Choice week in the Great British Bake Off tent. Viewers had been asked in January to submit their ideas for the show, and they were brought to life in the latest episode.

The contestants were challenged with baking a cheesecake with a family member. They also whipped up a delicious treat using a ‘mystery box’ of ingredients. Finally, the budding bakers had to make a ‘wearable bake’ for the Showstopper.

As usual, Nigella and Paul were on hand to taste everything they produced. But Nigella kept speaking her mind while her mouth was still full.

Fans have since share their feelings online, with one even saying it ‘puts them off’ watching.

Writing on X, the viewer said: “Nigella really has no manners. Shovelling food in. Talking with her mouth full. Grim and very off putting.”

Another added: “Wish she would stop talking with her mouth full!! #GBBO.”

Over on Reddit, fans were also discussing Nigella’s bad habit: “Yes, PLEASE finish chewing and swallowing before you start talking on camera,” someone else said.

Nigella has already come under scrutiny for the way she tucks into the bakes. This was her third week on the show and fans have previously admitted they are baffled by the way Nigella eats.

But for every critical comment, there are plenty more positive ones.

Nigella branded Bake Off’s ‘biggest triumph’

The majority of Great British Bake Off fans have welcomed Nigella onto the show with open arms. And during Audience Choice week, the praise also flooded in.

“Can Nigella never leave. She’s the best thing to happen to the show in years,” a viewer pleaded.

Agreeing, another said: “Having Nigella on this show is everything! She fits perfectly.”

And a third viewer gushed: “The biggest triumph of Nigella on Bake Off is how she brings what genuinely feels like a real LOVE of every bite she takes.

“Laugh at how she might eat all you want, I just see someone enjoying every mouthful and it’s JOYOUS.”

Hear, hear!

The Great British Bake Off continues next week and it is Bread Week in the tent. A preview of the episode shows one contestant admitting he hates garlic bread.
