James Haskell’s mum makes surprise Celebs Go Dating appearance and it’s bad news for Chloe Madeley
James was worried about what his mum would sayCelebs Go Dating premiered it’s brand-new series last night (May 4) and already had some twists and turns. One in particular was when friends and family appeared, and for James Haskell, his mum made a huge impact – but what did she say about ex Chloe Madeley?
In a unique twist, friends and family of the participants were all invited to a group dinner with the celebs. The reason was so they can hear from those closest to them why they think they’ve not had much luck in love.
For James Haskell, his mum, Susie, was the one to make an appearance. And when she was asked about his relationships, she didn’t hold back.
What happened between James Haskell and Chloe Madeley?
Back in 2023, James Haskell and Chloe Madely split after five years of marriage. But they continue to co-parent their three-year-old daughter, Bodhi.
James has previously admitted they were in different phases of their lives, and he was still very much wanting to go out partying.
He told The Daily Mail in 2025: “If I put more time into my marriage than I did Guinness, then I wouldn’t be divorced now.
“It’s one of those things in life where some things don’t work out. But I have so much love for my daughter, and Chloe. It’s teamwork.”
While many would think it’s awkward, James actually turned to his ex for advice ahead of Celebs Go Dating.

He admitted: “I was on the fence. She encouraged me to go for it. She is a good friend, and my co-parent. We’re very transparent with each other.”
What did James’ mum say on Celebs Go Dating?
Immediately, James – who was on crutches in the episode – was worried about what his mum might say about his previous relationship. He told the camera: “Mum is an absolute loose cannon at the best of times. I am dreading what’s going to come out of her mouth. As long as she does not upset my ex.”
However, Susie clearly didn’t have the intention of staying quiet. And she didn’t hold back when speaking about her ex-daughter-in-law.
She revealed: “I’m not sure where he’s gone wrong because, prior to his wedding, I met lots of lovely girlfriends. Each of them loved me, which is a bonus.
“I do have quite a strong opinion on why I think it went wrong. You can’t have two stars because then you have them competing for the floor space the whole time. In the past, he’s been extremely popular. I have seen at rugby matches, where the elderly ladies have got very close to him.”
Susie admitted she thinks her son needs someone who can “see the softness” and the “brilliant intellect” inside James.
