MAFS UK groom arrested on suspicion of 'rape' following Panorama investigation
The Met Police launched a probe after the BBC documentary airedMAFS UK is back in the headlines after a groom from the show was arrested on suspicion of ‘rape’, according to reports.
Married At First Sight UK first came under the microscope following a bombshell Panorama investigation in May.
The BBC spoke to two women who alleged they had been raped while starring on the E4 reality shows.
A third, Shona Manderson, alleged she had been the victim of “sexual misconducted” during filming of the 2023 series. She was not one of the brides who claimed to have been raped.
All three men vehemently denied the allegations.
MAFS UK groom arrested over ‘rape’
The Sun has today reported that a man who previously took part in Married At First Sight was arrested last month.
The publication states that he was interviewed by police on June 18. It came after the Met Police launched a probe into allegations made in Panorama: The Dark Side of Married At First Sight.
A Met Police spokesperson said: “This relates to an ongoing investigation, being led by the Met Police.
“He has since been bailed while enquiries remain ongoing.”
TVGuide has contacted Channel 4 for comment.
The Panorama episode about Married At First Sight UK aired in May. Within days, Channel 4 boss Pryia Dogra had issued an apology to the women who spoke out.
Speaking at a press briefing, Priya said: “I have watched the programme and heard the women’s accounts, which are very troubling.
“Their distress is clear, and for that, I am of course deeply sorry.”
Channel 4 confirmed an external investigation into the welfare procedures on the show is currently being carried out.
MAFS UK pulled from Channel 4
In the wake of the documentary, all previous episodes of Married At First Sight UK were pulled from Channel 4’s streaming services.
It’s new spin-off, Second Marriage At First Sight – which was to star previous Australian and British brides and grooms – is currently on hold.
Meanwhile, the broadcaster has denied reports claiming it had cancelled the 2026 series of MAFS UK.
A spokesperson previously told us that C4 would decide the show’s future after the external investigation concluded.
