Piers Morgan makes Good Morning Britain return

Susanna was presenting Good Morning Britain with Ed Balls when Piers joined the conversation. They were discussing Andy Burnham’s appointment as prime minister when Piers cut in with a simple: “Hello, by the way!”

Ed joked that there was no time for small talk. He said the show had a big interview to get through.

Piers fired back: “I know you have, but at least say, ‘Lovely to see you back,'” before Susanna got up to hug him. Ed then followed suit and embraced him too.

Susanna smiled and told him: “Nice to see you. Now, we’re in a completely different building, I can break my hug omertà,” with Piers replying: “[Now] you don’t have the PTSD!”

She then joked: “Now that bromance is over, or the romance is over,” before returning to the political discussion. The exchange showed how easily the trio slipped back into old rhythms.

During the chat, Susanna and Piers found themselves agreeing on politics. That left both of them sounding slightly stunned.

Susanna asked: “How come we agree? This is weird.”

Meanwhile, Piers said: “This is very unsettling.”

She then added: “Is this what happens when you have a break?”

Piers answered with a longer reflection on their old working relationship. He said: “I think in most relationships, you have a few years off after a very intense marriage, [which] is what we had. And then after time, all the little annoying things, like the way you used to chew your pen, all that stuff, it all just fades away and we remember the good times.”

After Piers’ appearance, Susanna wrote on Instagram: “WE WERE ON A BREAK! An ex came into the studio and met up with the current – and it wasn’t awkward! Always lovely to see you @piersmorgan.

“I know that on TV we have had our rows, and there’s a lot of panto involved on screen but behind the scenes we remain good friends and who better to speak to this morning about a new PM, President Trump and football. And we were in the unusual position of AGREEING on a General Election. Sometimes all you need is a break…! Thanks for watching @gmb and for being always a good sport @edballs.”

A clip of Piers and Susanna’s reunion was shared to GMB’s social media pages. After seeing Piers back on the GMB sofa, one viewer said: “We need to start a petition… Come back Piers. Loved watching when he was on.”

Another wrote: “Come back Piers… was great to see you.”

Meanwhile, a third added: “Absolutely loved him on GMB, he needs to be back!!!”

Piers left Good Morning Britain in March 2021 after saying he did not believe claims made by Meghan Markle during her interview with Oprah Winfrey.

At the time, he clashed with weatherman Alex Beresford live on air which resulted in Piers walking off set.

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays from 6am on ITV1 and ITVX
