The Cage star Sheridan Smith shows off 'amazing' transformation as she changes image for new role: 'You look boss'
W-O-W!
The Cage viewers are used to seeing Sheridan Smith as casino cashier Leanne, currently rocking blonde hair, fake eyelashes, and perfectly manicured nails. But she’s recently undergone a stunning transformation for her next role.
Of course, the Epworth-born actress has changed her looks dozens of times, both for work and for pleasure. And she’d be the first to admit there have been some hits and misses. And this latest change is quite possibly the best yet.
Unsurprisingly, her friends and fans have described the new change as “gorgeous”, “incredible”, and “amazing”.

Sheridan Smith ‘looks boss with dark hair’
Sheridan shown off her new look this week, alongside the message: “Hope you enjoyed The Cage tonight. Leanne’s had a lil transformation.”
In the BBC One show, Sheridan plays down-on-her-luck cashier Leanne. But, despite the awful things she goes through, she (nearly) always look presentable. In the drama, she is sporting her usual blonde locks.
But now Sheridan Smith has dyed her hair brunette for a new role. She, yes, she looks bloody brilliant. In fact, we can’t help but wonder why she doesn’t keep it brunette. In the new pics, she could even be mistaken for Cheryl Cole! The Cage viewers might even have noticed that Sheridan is sporting a new set of gnashers, too. It’s all part of the 44-year-old’s attempts for self-improvment.
Family, friends and fans were quick to compliment the actress on her new hair. One said: “You look amazing, girlie.”
Another enthused: “This hair colour looks incredible on you!”

Sheridan Smith transforms for new role in Two Birds
The award-winning actress has dyed her hair for her upcoming role in Two Birds. It’s an “exhilarating mystery thriller” in which Sheridan Smith plays British Police Constable Izzie Cornwell. Recently widowed, she arrives in the small (fictional) town of Dugdale dreaming of a fresh start and a new life in Australia.
ITV describes Two Birds as a “compelling” and “exhilarating” series written by The Cry’s Helen FitzGerald. A synopsis tells us: “Focused upon chasing away her grief, Izzie hopes to reconnect with her sister who moved to the Kalgoorlie area with her Australian husband. And, most important of all, Izzie wants to rebuild trust with her 22-year-old daughter. Her mother’s recent destructive behaviour has left her scared.”
Sheridan is set to fly to Australia any day now to begin filming. In fact, she’ll miss the BAFTA Television Award for Leading Actress for her role as Ann Ming in the ITV drama I Fought the Law. The winner will be announced at the BAFTA ceremony in London on May 10, 2026. But she’ll already be Down Under.
Appearing on The One Show, she revealed that Two Birds is “unlike anything I’ve ever done before”. She said: “I am really excited about it. I’ve done gun training, combat training, learning to ride a motorbike training. And I’m trying to beef up. If you look at my Instagram, it looks like I’m doing Marvel films. I’m all in. But it’s nice, it’s given me the excuse to work out which is something I would never do.”
Viewers can expect to watch the new drama in 2027 on ITV.

New character pending!
Celebrity hairdresser Edward Taylor dyed and styled Sheridan Smith’s hair. Sheridan’s good friend Charley Webb, actress and former star of Emmerdale, was there by her side, too.
Edward wrote: “Love transforming you [Sheridan]. Already looking forward to the next one. New character pending.”
He also revealed that he’d added extensions to Sheridan Smith’s hair to make it longer and thicker.
