Unchosen: Netflix confirms release date for Siobhan Finneran's new nail-biting cult thriller
Christopher Eccleston plays a cult leader
Unchosen, a new psychological thriller starring Siobhan Finneran and Christopher Eccleston, is coming to Netflix soon – and it finally has a release date.
There’s been no shortage of good telly on Netflix in 2026. The platform kicked off the year with the Stranger Things finale, and it’s since dropped His and Hers, Seven Dials, and How to Get to Heaven from Belfast.
There’s plenty more to come, too. The Peaky Blinders movie has just dropped, and Something Very Bad is Going to Happen is coming this week.
Unchosen, coming very soon to Netflix, looks like a must-watch. Here’s what we know.

What is Unchosen about?
Unchosen, written and developed by Julie Gearey (Prisoners’ Wives, Intergalactic), is a new thriller about a couple’s experience in a religious cult.
According to the official synopsis, it will follow Rosie, who lives in a “cloistered Christian community with her husband, Adam, and their daughter”.
Sam, an escaped prisoner, arrives and upends the natural order of her world. “[He] throws into relief the reality and restraints of Rosie’s world… perhaps her hidden religious community doesn’t have her best interests at heart,” Netflix adds.
As her outlook on life fractures and starts to broaden, it starts to affect her marriage, all while Sam presents himself as Rosie’s saviour.

“But with his dark criminal past, where does the greatest danger lie – with the cult, or with Sam?” the synopsis concludes.

Unchosen release date
Unchosen will be released on Netflix on April 21, 2026.
All six episodes will be available to stream on the same day, with each episode running around 50 minutes long.
It’s not the only big Netflix title dropping in April, either. Beef season 2, Stranger Things: Tales from ’85, and Man on Fire are all part of the month’s lineup.

Who’s in the Unchosen cast?
Unchosen has a stacked cast, with Molly Windsor (best known for her roles in Three Girls and Traces) playing Rosie.
Asa Butterfield, whom Sex Education fans will recognise from his role as Otis, will play her husband, Adam.
Then there are two British TV heavy-hitters: Siobhan Finneran, of Happy Valley and Protection fame, and Christopher Eccleston. The latter star will play the sect’s religious leader, while Finneran will play a senior member of the cult.
There’s one more member of the cast: Fra Fee. You may recognise him from his performances in Prime Target, Rebel Moon, and Dalgliesh.
How many episodes?
Unchosen is a six-part Netflix series, and all episodes will be available to stream as soon as it premieres on the platform.
That’s a slight change from Netflix’s usual eight-episode batches. It’s unclear how long each episode will be, but a safe bet would be the 45-60-minute mark for each instalment.
