Marc Warren‘s character Piet Van der Valk is happily in love with girlfriend Lena in the current series 4 of the detective drama, but the actor’s real life love life isn’t quite as clear cut.
In the new episodes, Piet is living with Lena Linderman on his boat, and the pair seem happy. This comes several years after the character lost his wife in a tragic car crash.
But behind the scenes, Northampton-born actor Marc – who is 59 years of age – has never been married, and his love life hasn’t quite been smooth sailing.

Who is Van Der Valk star Marc Warren’s girlfriend?
Marc Warren often jokes that he lives the life of a hermit, a relative recluse. The actor, who is famous for his roles in The Musketeers and Mad Dogs, has described himself as a loner, sharing a personal affinity with reclusive characters like the detectives he plays.
Talking about living in Amsterdam to film Van Der Valk, he told us: “Well, I never go out, so I am incredibly boring. My Amsterdam is always the same. I walk the same routes; I eat in the same places. I just go to this little soup shop. I’m a real creature of habit.”
Marc is believed to be single, and rarely talks about his private life. He has never married, and does not have children.
Marc Warren’s ex-girlfriends included former glamour model
The actor previously dated former glamour model Abi Titmuss. They dated for two years between 2007 to 2009.
At the time, Marc revealed that he even wanted to have children with Abi. A year into their romance, Marc said: “I’m at an age where I look at kids and think that really appeals to me.”
As reported by The Sun, Marc continued: “I know everyone says they change your life and can be a nightmare but they also fill your life with joy.”
Sadly, though, the couple didn’t make it, going their separate ways in 2009 after allegations he’d had an affair. Abi is most famous for her highly-publicised relationship with John Leslie between 1999 and 2004.
In 2017, Abi married Days of Our Lives co-star Ari Welkom. The couple now have a son.
Marc Warren in controversial ‘age-gap romance’
Another of Marc Warren’s more controversial girlfriends or flings was Chloe Madeley, daughter of Richard Madeley and Judy Finnigan. The pair were photographed kissing in Brighton in 2012, sparking rumours of an age-gap romance.
At the time, Chloe was 24, while Marc was 45 – causing the couple’s rendezvous to gain some media attention.
Chloe had recently split from her ex-Dancing on Ice co-star Sam Attwater, who she moved in with in 2011. But the relationship wasn’t to last with Chloe moving back in with her parents soon after.
After a brief affair, Chloe and Marc then called it quits. Of course, Chloe subsequently married England rugby union player James Haskell. They had a daughter called Bodhi before separating after five years.
