This will be a true 'test' for Dev and Bernie

In tonight’s episode of Coronation Street (Friday, January 30), Bernie begged Mal not to tell Dev or anybody else about what went on the night before.

He promised to keep her drug use a secret but told her that she’d be seeing a lot more of him on the Street.

And now, Coronation Street producer Kate Brooks has teased that this will ‘test’ Dev and Bernie’s marriage greatly.

Mal keeps Bernie’s secret in Coronation Street

Bernie’s loved ones continued to worry about her today when she failed to answer any of their calls after staying out all night.

With Brody’s 17th birthday party about to start, it was odd that Bernie hadn’t yet shown up.

However, she then stumbled in and told her family to hurry up and get ready while she wrapped the presents.

Ryan had told Gemma all about Bernie doing drugs with a stranger at the hotel, with Gemma then confronting a grieving Bernie but keeping it all a secret from Dev.

After the party, Bernie bumped into Mal once more and asked him to keep quiet about the drugs and everything that went on last night. Mal agreed but told Bernie that she’d be seeing a lot more of him. Roy had just offered him a job doing his electrics.

Coronation Street boss teases huge ‘test’ for Dev and Bernie’s marriage

Coronation Street boss Kate Brooks recent told the press that Dev and Bernie’s marriage will suffer a huge ‘test’ as a result of Bernie’s grief journey and Mal’s appearance.

But, will they split? Well, it looks like Dev and Bernie might just be strong enough to hold on and get through this tough time together.

She teased: “We take Bernie on a really interesting journey as she struggles. It gets to the point where, because it’s been bubbling for such a long time, it eventually erupts. When it does, there are consequences for Bernie. It’s not as straightforward as Dev sweeping in and making sure that everything’s okay. It’s a really muddy, murky story that we take her on. I think it just again explores another side of Bernie that we’ve not seen yet.”

She added: “Obviously it’s going to be a test for Bernie and Dev, but it’s a test that they are a really strong couple, and no matter what we throw at them, they can overcome because they love each other.

“They absolutely adore each other. It’s a big story for Bernie, and certainly Roy’s embroiled in that story as well. It’s a really interesting one to keep an eye on, because it’s going to be quite a big start of the year for Bernie.”

What else happened in Coronation Street tonight?

Debbie prepped for prison

Abi caught Debbie lying on an airbed on the floor and explaining that she was stripping the luxuries from her life ahead of her possible stretch in prison.

She'd even switched to skimmed milk, but Abi assured her that there was full fast milk in prison. No fret.

Theo cut up Todd's card

Theo opened one of Todd's bills in the post without his permission and found out that he'd taken out a loan for £7k.

He then told Todd that if he started using cash instead of a card he would end up spending less.

Taking drastic action, Theo cut up Todd's bank card and told him that he would be setting up a joint account. Any financial decisions would have to go through him from now on. How cruel!

Abi worried about Kevin

Abi headed to the garage and found Kevin sleeping in a customer's car. She then expressed her concerns for him but he didn't want any help. Is Kevin in trouble?
