Grieving Bernie met a guy called Mal at the Chariot Square Hotel and had a few drinks with him before heading back to his room. Turning to drugs, things got more intense before Bernie was then found unconscious in a toilet cubicle by a group of girls. But, does she pull through? She announced to Dev that she was off out with the girls. After losing both Paul and Billy, she needed escapism – preferably served in a glass. A few drinks at the Rovers quickly turned awkward when Maggie hinted Bernie might’ve overdone it, so Bernie took the hint… and took herself elsewhere. At the Chariot Square, Bernie met Mal, a stranger with a sad story and a fully stocked bar. Over drinks, they swapped tales of heartbreak, blasted music loud enough to rattle the chandeliers and promptly got kicked out by a frazzled Ryan. Not one to call it a night, Bernie accepted Mal’s invitation upstairs. And, things got messy fast – and questionable choices followed. Bernie’s alive. Tomorrow (Friday, January 30), back at No.7, Dev is wearing a trench in the carpet, convinced Bernie’s disappearance spells disaster. Kit and Asha try to soothe his nerves, suggesting she’ll turn up sooner or later – likely clutching a fry-up and a monumental hangover. Meanwhile, at the café, Sally plays birthday hostess to Brody. A twitchy Gemma admits to Roy that Bernie’s gone completely off-grid. Is Ryan finally going to cough up what he knows? Just as Dev, Asha, Gemma and Chesney prepare to head out, the door creaks open and a bedraggled Bernie staggers in. Outside No.4, she confesses to Gemma that the night spiralled badly… She then freezes at the sight of Mal. Talk about terrible timing. Next week, trying to dodge the awkwardness, Bernie later suggests Roy hires a cheaper electrician, but guilt keeps him loyal to Mal. When Mal reappears in the café and offers to help Bernie during the lunch rush, she agrees through gritted teeth. What else happened in Coronation Street tonight?
