We’ve seen a character come ‘back from the dead,’ and a huge fire break out at one of the Street’s most iconic landmarks. And, we can only expect that the soap will get even wilder in 2026. Hold on Becky, weren’t you meant to be dead? (Credit: ITV) 1. Becky Swain’s ‘return from the dead’ Becky Swain’s ‘back from the dead’ comeback has to be one of the wildest, most what-on-earth-are-we-watching? twists Coronation Street has pulled out of its cobbled sleeve in years, and honestly, we’re still recovering. After being presumed dead in that dramatic off-screen ‘fatal’ hit and run that apparently took place years ago, fans never expected to ever actually meet her. Until she rocked up into Weatherfield. Surprise! Article Continues Below Read all the latest Spoilers First, we got cryptic whispers, odd glances, mysterious mentions… then BOOM – Becky Swain walked back onto our screens, alive, smug, and with more baggage than the Underworld stockroom. But Becky didn’t just return for tea and a catch-up. Oh no. She swaggered back with corruption, secrets, burner phones, and a talent for making everyone else’s life dramatically worse. Within weeks she’d set off a chain reaction involving Costello’s attack, hidden evidence, and the break-up of Swarla. SOB. Becky’s resurrection storyline was messy, outrageous, and absolutely bonkers – in other words, peak Corrie chaos. And, as it continues into 2026, we’re hoping Becky’s corruption is exposed and that she gets her comeuppance. Mr. Donovan returned (Credit: ITV) 2. Rob Donovan’s prison break Rob Donovan’s prison escape saga of 2025 was the kind of gloriously unhinged chaos that makes Corrie fans sit bolt upright and shout at the telly. Honestly, we were not prepared. When Bobby got in touch with his dad in prison to ask him to give up a kidney for Carla, we were ecstatic to see Rob back on our screens. It was as though he’d never been away. But, what was really wild was that not only did Rob have a love affair with the prison guard Mandy, he also teamed up with her to help him escape. Back in Weatherfield, Rob actually managed to rope Tracy Barlow into his schemes before pointing a gun at his sister Carla. But, perhaps the scariest bit of all was him forcing her to eat out-of-date spaghetti hoops. Gross. Rob eventually got locked back up inside again, but not before shooting Betsy Swain in the arm. How chaotic. Mick broke out of prison (Credit: ITV) 3. Mick Michaelis’ prison break (yes, another one) How wild would it be if Corrie aired not one, but two prison escapes in the same year? Very wild. And it did just that. If the twist that bad boy Brody was actually Kit Green’s son and not Mick’s wasn’t enough, another huge event saw Mick break free from prison and go off on a rampage through Weathy High. Poor Mrs Crawshaw and Daniel Osbourne got quite the fright, and the emergence of ‘evil’ Lily Platt was enough to scar little Sam Blakeman for life. Bless him. Somehow moving on from the school, Mick Michaelis then headed straight for Underworld and had a huge face off with Sally Metcalfe of the… roof! The roof brought back a lot of bad memories for Sal (when was the last time she spoke to Gina actually?), but she managed to protect young Joanie from her horrible dad. Mick stabbed Kit Green before surrendering. Fortunately Kit survived which was good really because Weathy Police Station couldn’t afford to lose another one of their own at the hands of Mick. RIP Craigy. Dee-Dee and James’ plan was never going to work (Credit: ITV) 4. Dee-Dee and James’ baby adoption When Dee-Dee Bailey gave birth to baby Laila, she was adamant that she didn’t want to raise her. She would remind her of Joel Deering too much. A valid point. She was ready to hand baby Laila over to her brother James. Yes, in a very confusing deal with her brother, she was agreeing to allow James to act as both uncle and dad to the little one. To add more to the complicated situation, Dee-Dee then grew attached to Laila and wanted to keep her after all. James was devastated but was happy to still be allowed to co-parent Laila despite this. Yeah, try explaining all of this to your daughter, wait no, niece, when she grows up James. One of the Platts’ own started the fire (Credit: ITV) 5. The Platt fire The Platt fire went up in flames and it really marked the end of an era for the family. A big whodunnit went down and it was uncovered that Max had actually started the fire in a bid to claim on the insurance and help the family out with their financial mess. Yes, one of the Platts’ own. Well, he really didn’t think this one through as he ended up going back into the burning building to save his sister. But, Lily wasn’t even in there. Max ultimately went to prison for it all because, let’s face it, he wasn’t the best at covering his tracks. Mason died at the start of the year (Credit: ITV) 6. Mason Radcliffe’s death Teen Mason Radcliffe was just starting to turn his life around for the better when he was fatally stabbed by his own brothers at the precinct. Mason had been helping Betsy and Lisa Swain out in trying to get information on his brothers’ involvement in Becky Swain’s death. So, not only did Corrie kill off such a promising character, it also killed him off for no reason. Why? Because Becky Swain never actually died. Mason died for no reason. Make it make sense. Abi cheated on Kevin with his BROTHER (Credit: ITV) 7. Carl/ Abi/ Kevin affair No words are even needed for this one. Abi Webster thought she could have the best of both Webster worlds when she started up an affair with dodgy Carl Webster. Yes, her husband Kevin’s half-brother. It seemed to be love (more like lust) at first sight for the pair in a romantic moment that they’d remember forever (ah, remember that time when we rowed with each other over a car parking space in the Freshco’s car park? Those were the days). We were shouting at the screen, begging Abi to wake up a be happy with the brother she already had but there was no stopping her. And, now she’s left Kevin and is planning her future with Carl. But, Carl isn’t on the same wavelength and is actually planning on fleeing back to Germany. Oops. Jenny didn’t see this one coming (Credit: ITV) 8. Daisy and Christina’s catfishing of Jenny Once a catfish, always a catfish. Yeah, nobody says that, but it was true in Daisy Midgeley’s case. Daisy hadn’t learned her lesson from the whole Crystal thing and thought she’d catfish some more. This time roping in Christina to help her scam Jenny. Did Jenny deserve it? Probably not. Okay, maybe a little. But, the whole plan was rather elaborate and it saw Jenny hand over her money to a guy called Dom who she believed was her next romantic partner. Jenny never had the best track record when it came to dating, but this whole saga caused a huge rift between her and Daisy. So much so that Daisy left the cobbles. And, so did Jenny not long after. Will and Megan have been seeing each other in secret (Credit: ITV) 9. Megan and Will’s grooming storyline Will Driscoll is only a teen yet he’s secretly dating older woman and fitness coach, Megan Driscoll. When Will rocked up onto the Street with his family, they were concerned when he went ‘missing.’ Viewers found out that he’d been staying with Megan in Hull, but he managed to lie to Ben and Eva that he was just missing his friends. Now, groomer Megan has secured herself a job at Weathy High in a bid to get closer to Will. And, she hasn’t been afraid to flirt with Daniel in the process. Very messy. Very illegal. Very awful. Very wild. Hope’s own sister was responsible (Credit: ITV) 10. Hope’s trolling ordeal Poor Hope Stape had a right nightmare of it when she started receiving nasty messages about her appearance online. It was really affecting her, and she started to even accuse Jake Windass of being responsible. Jake actually just had a crush on Hope and was definitely not behind the messages. Instead, Hope’s own sister Ruby was to blame out of pure jealousy. And, the worst part was that Tyrone found out and agreed to keep the discovery a secret from Hope to protect Ruby. Wow.
