But, viewers haven’t forgotten a major part of Webster history that means that Debbie’s story makes no sense. Debbie told Carl that she’s his mum (Credit: ITV) Debbie told Carl the truth in Coronation Street Yesterday on Coronation Street, Ronnie pulled Carl aside for a heart-to-heart, fretting that Debbie’s health might take a nosedive behind bars. Feeling the weight of his guilt for framing her over the crash, Carl vowed to make things right – but his promise took a U-turn before reaching the police station. When Carl finally spilled the beans to Debbie about being behind the wheel, she calmly revealed she’d already known – and had been shielding him all along… because, surprise, she’s his mum. Article Continues Below Read all the latest Spoilers Debbie went on to confess that she’d discovered she was pregnant at just 17 after a one-night encounter with a lad who fancied her, and Elaine had ‘kindly’ stepped in to raise Carl herself, sparing Debbie the trials of teen motherhood. Elaine and her partner Bill didn’t want Debbie to waste her life away and decided to raise Carl together… But Carl wasn’t having any of the maternal sentiment. He lashed out, blaming Debbie for his rocky upbringing and claiming he’d always felt invisible to Elaine. Every misstep in his life, he insisted, traced back to her choice. With a stinging finality, he told his mum he hoped prison was exactly where she belonged – and deserved. She had said that Bill and Elaine had raised Carl has their own. But, this doesn’t add up. Fans remember that Bill and Elaine had split up and Elaine had moved on with another bloke. Bill then later returned to the Street and had romances with Audrey and Maureen. It seems odd therefore that he would have time to coparent Carl with Elaine in between all of this. Surely he wouldn’t have just left Carl with someone who wasn’t his actual mum? One fan wrote: “Bill and Elaine split up, hence his return to Corrie. Odd then that Elaine, and her new partner, kept custody of the child she apparently disliked. Oh writers, don’t underestimate the memories of your viewers.” Another said: “Bill left Elaine and came to live with Audrey and left Carl with her knowing she wasn’t his mother.
