Coronation Street review: Debbie's speech was a triumph, Todd took action, and we need Becky to leave

Debbie's evening with the women of Coronation Street was a classic episode that showcased everyone's talents

Our Coronation Street review this week is filled with a certain amount of awe. Because Corrie has been getting better and better over the last few weeks. And we were so impressed by how good these recent episodes were.

From Todd’s abuse at the hands of boyfriend Theo, to Debbie’s dementia battle, the soap definitely had us gripped this week.

Here’s everything we thought of the action in this week’s Coronation Street review.

Debbie’s inspirational speech

This week Debbie Webster gave a speech to local businesswomen. Debbie was really nervous. She fluffed her lines. She forgot the passcode for her tablet so she couldn’t read her speech. For a moment, we felt Debbie’s nerves.

And then she pulled it out of the bag in the most Debbie Webster fashion. She told the audience about her dementia diagnosis. And with her friends from the cobbles urging her on, she declared: “I am Debbie Webster. I’m sharp, confident, in control and I will not go down without a fight!”

It was amazing. And frankly, it got better from there on!

The women – Debbie, Mary, Leanne, Christina, Glenda, Bernie and Sally – all headed back to Debbie’s flat. Attracting some attention from a local bobby along the way.

It really was Corrie at its best. The women are all such brilliant actresses. The characters are all hilarious when they want to be, but they’re not only comics – they’re also sad, sharp, and even bit mean occasionally. They’re such perfect soap women and this just reminded us how lucky we are to have them!

The whole episode was an absolute treat – we even loved Debbie calling Sally by her maiden name – Sally Seddon!

And then the episode ended on a heartbreaking note. Bernie opened a cabinet in Debbie’s living room and found it full of notes and photographs the sassy Ms Webster had left for herself. Photos of her family, and reminders about who they are, their birthdays, their likes and dislikes…

It was a sad reminder of what Debbie has in store and such a sharp contrast to the hilarity of the episode. Which, let’s be honest, is where the brilliance of soap lies. What an episode – we really loved it.

Todd took action

It wasn’t only the women taking centre stage this week, though. After the awful events of last week, Todd and Theo were still the focus of attention as Todd suffered even more at the hands of the man who claims to love him.

With Todd’s head still bearing the scars of Theo shoving him into a mirror, Theo banned him from going out. At all.

He told Todd’s friends that he’d gone to London. And when Summer spotted someone in the flat – Todd of course – Theo pretended they must have had a break-in.

Theo told everyone Todd was doing a lot of daytime drinking. And then he stepped up his manipulation even more. When Todd showed a bit of defiance, Theo began hitting himself, violently. It was shocking to watch. And it definitely had the effect Theo was hoping for as Todd folded once more.

But it wasn’t over. Todd’s friends – Summer, Billy, Christina and others – did seem to be a little suspicious about Todd’s strange behaviour.

And Todd’s taken some action himself. At the end of the week he bought some photo frames with hidden cameras and set them up in the flat. Is he gathering evidence to prove to himself that Theo is abusive, or does he want to prove it to others? Either way, we’re hoping Todd gets out of this soon.

Becky’s the worst at hiding

The Becky/Costello horror rumbled on, being a very dull spot in a very bright week. The sooner this storyline is over the better, quite frankly.

But we are heartened by Kit and Carla becoming allies. Can they work together to bring down Becky and end this nightmare? We really hope so.

Plus, we’d like to point out that Becky wandering round the hospital, the Street, the shops, and anywhere else she fancies, using her real name, and spending all her time with Lisa is not the behaviour of someone who is meant to be staying out of sight because she is supposed to be dead. It is annoying and frustrating and we’d like it to end now, please.

Daniel made a move

Daniel Osborne is a quick mover, isn’t he? He’s well and truly got his claws into newcomer Megan already. Except, of course he doesn’t know she’s in a very inappropriate relationship with young teen Will Driscoll.

Will was giving Daniel daggers this week as he flirted with Megan. Will he take revenge on Mr Osborne?
