Let’s just say it’s a mother of all revelations. The bombshell comes as Debbie prepares for her day in court – and her reckoning for the accident that claimed Billy’s life. As viewers know, Carl was actually driving that fateful night and switched seats in the front of the car with his passed-out sister. The troubled hotel owner had viewers with bated breath on her wedding day as it appeared she was going to reveal a huge family secret when Carl challenged her about not mentioning his mum had called her. Debbie’s mistake was devastating because his mum subsequently died. She looked ready to drop a big revelation on Carl in a hotel room confrontation, but he drunkenly stormed out on her. We in fact discovered this for fact after Debbie pleaded guilty in court earlier this month and later stared at Carl’s baby tag, with her name on it as mum. Later, Carl disrupts an already uneasy family lunch, accusing his sister of stabbing him in the back by putting Ryan in charge. At home that evening, Debbie seizes her chance to try and explain her motives to Carl – will he listen? Carl contemplates doing the right thing It appears that Debbie’s words have had some impact on self-centred Carl as he is plagued with guilt when he overhears a conversation between Summer and Nina. Summer tearfully confesses how much she misses Billy and, if only Debbie had not been driving that night, he would still be alive. When Ronnie later tells Carl that if the judge sends Debbie to prison, it will speed up her dementia, Carl resolves to put things right. Debbie tells Carl a mother of all secrets in Corrie Later, Ronnie is worried sick when Debbie accidentally calls him Ray, the name of her shady ex. Ronnie tells Carl his worries about his new wife. A strange conversation ensues, which Ronnie later fills in Debbie on, and she dashes out. Catching up with Carl, she listens as he finally admits that he was the one driving the car the night of the pile-up. Debbie reveals she was always aware of this but wants to protect him. She then reveals just why this matters to her so much – she’s his mum… but how will he react? When Ryan hands over the key to her flat and reveals that Carl left it at reception, Debbie’s heart breaks. Announcing that there’s one more thing she needs to do, Debbie hurries out, finds Carl and tells him it would mean the world to her if he came to court. As Debbie takes her place in court, she’s pleased to see Ronnie, Kevin, Abi and Ryan there in support. Debbie’s disappointed by Carl’s absence as she prepares to receive her sentence.
