Frightened and alone, she turns to ex-boyfriend Jacob for comfort. But instead of showing her kindness, Jacob issues Sarah with some painful home truths. Knowing time wasn’t on her side due to her life-limiting illness Fanconi anaemia, the teen decided to pursue private IVF. Sarah went for an examination at a local fertility clinic, where doctors discovered a swelling on her cervix. Immediately this sent Sarah into a panic. Having already battled cancer once she feared the disease had returned. Too scared to tell her family what was going on, Sarah then went for a biopsy on her own. This week the results are back, and sadly, Sarah’s worst fears are confirmed. The consultant informs her she’s got the early stages of cervical cancer. But she’s relieved to learn there may still be a chance for her to conceive in the future. Sarah is very shaken as she walks out of the room. Jacob, who’s working on shift at the hospital, sees Sarah and wonders what she’s doing there. He confronts his ex, who puts on a brave face and insists everything is fine. Jacob can see Sarah is far from okay though. As he offers her his support, Sarah cracks and reveals she’s got cancer. The news comes as a terrible shock to Jacob too, and he tries his best to comfort Sarah. She explains to him about the IVF and her hopes of having a baby. Sarah hopes Jacob will show her compassion, but she gets a cold response. He thinks she’s being selfish even considering bringing a baby into the world. Still deep in grief over his mum Leyla, Jacob also explains what impact losing a mum can have on a child. His harsh words only make Sarah feel even worse. After taking a moment to digest everything, Jacob gets another shock. He discovers he’s the only one who knows both about Sarah’s cancer and IVF. Can Jacob persuade Sarah to tell her family the truth? Or will he end up being her only support?
