The Gold fans beg for a series 3, but here's why writer Neil Forsyth isn't writing more episodes
Helen Fear | 10:15am Mon 9 Jun | Updated 11:20am Mon 9 JunThe Gold is currently enjoying a primetime Sunday night slot on BBC One, and fans have declared the new six-parter is “even better than series 1”, but will there be a series 3?
Millions of viewers tuned in as the drama series returned with series 2 on Sunday night (June 08, 2025), two years after series 1 first aired.
And it’s been getting rave reviews – thanks largely to its amazing cast, and the fact it’s based on a pretty jaw-dropping true story…

Fans beg for another series
After the first episode of The Gold series 2 went out, viewers were quick to gather on social media to praise the series – and beg for another series.
One fan enthused: “Series 2 of #TheGold is SO good! Damn. Like it even better than series 1!!”
Another added: “Nicki Jennings, where is your spin-off gurl! Absolute need #TheGold @BBC @mrneilforsyth.”
“I hope we get a third series of #TheGold,” wrote a third, while another agreed, typing: “I need another series of #TheGold already.”
So, is writer Neil Forsyth considering penning a series 3 of The Gold…?

Will there be a series 3 of The Gold?
Sadly, there won’t be a series 3 of The Gold. The Beeb has confirmed that there will not be another run. The new series, airing in 2025, is the second and final part of The Gold.
That’s because the series 2 finale of The Gold brings the story of the Brink’s-Mat robbery up to date. Police failed to recover most of the gold in what was described as “the crime of the century”. In fact, less than $60,000 of the $2.7 million was ever found.
Of the 11 people involved in the robbery, eight received life sentences after a trial. Two others died before they could be convicted.
Scottish author Neil Forsyth, creator, writer and executive producer of The Gold, said: “I always saw The Gold as a two series show, following the two halves of the gold, so this will be the final series.”
What can I watch after The Gold?
If you’re a fan of Neil Forsyth’s work, then it’s worth watching The Guilt, which he created and wrote. Three series are currently available to watch on BBC iPlayer. Or if you enjoy the dramatisation of a robbery, you’ll probably enjoy the 2019 TV drama Hatton Garden…
Hatton Garden – currently available to watch on ITVX – follows four elderly men, all experienced thieves, who carry out a large-scale robbery. It stars Death Valley‘s Timothy Spall, and Kenneth Cranham as Brian Reader. Yep, you read that right – a younger Brian Reader also features in The Gold, and is played by James Nelson-Joyce.
