BBC One has announced that the brand new Welsh BBC comedy has commenced filming. And Ruth is starring opposite her real life friend and co-writer Steve Speirs.
The pair wrote and starred in Stella, about life in a fictional valleys town, which ran between 2012 and 2017. They recently reunited on screen for the factual travel series entitled Ruth & Steve: From Porthcawl with Love.
And there’ll be back new BBC comedy Better Later. Here’s everything you need to know.

What is the new Ruth Jones BBC comedy Better Later?
Ruth Jones has once again reunited with her real life friend Steve Speirs for the brand new Welsh BBC comedy Better Later. And it’s recently started filming in South Wales. Ruth and Steve co-wrote the upcoming comedy, and will co-star in it, too.
The series looks at the unexpected joys of an unlikely friendship. It centres on the relationship between two people who meet at a knee trauma clinic. Steve Speirs portrays retired teacher Clive, who is 60 and widowed. Ruth Jones stars as environmental health officer Shelley Anne who is 55 and going through a bitter divorce.
Ruth Jones said: “In a funny way, this show has been 35 years in the making, which is when I first met Steve. It’s not that we’re slow writers, it’s just that we’ve been up to other things. It’s fantastic to be back in front of the camera with him again. […] Steve and I are old friends and working with him is always a thrill.”
Meanwhile, Steve Speirs added: “Our first time acting together for quite a long time, Ruth makes me laugh more than anyone and I’m a terrible giggler. This could be a long shoot.”
