As Darnell makes his EastEnders debut, viewers already ‘work out’ why he’s so reluctant to help Denise
Denise is getting worseEastEnders fans are convinced they know why newcomer Darnell is so reluctant to help half-sister Denise as she fights for her life in a coma.
Denise has been in hospital over the last few weeks, getting treatment for her blood cancer battle. But last night, things took a turn and she ended up being induced into a coma.
Now, Jack and Kim have found her half-brother, Darnell. And while he’s reluctant to help, EastEnders fans believe they know why.
Darnell arrives as Denise is in a coma
In tonight’s episode, Jack went to extreme lengths to find Darnell, as he used the police database. However, while it worked, he actually didn’t have to, as Kim managed to track him down herself.
Darnell agreed to come meet them, but she didn’t initially tell him what it was actually about.
So, naturally, when he heard that Denise was fighting for her life in a coma, and needed a stem cell donor, he was speechless.
While they managed to get him to come to the hospital, while he was there, Darnell decided it was all too much – and very quickly rushed out.
Obviously Kim and Jack were devastated as they were pinning all of their hopes onto him. But fans believe they know why he actually ran off.
EastEnders fans predict sad twist
While Darnell was speaking to Kim and Jack, he revealed he was married with a daughter. And when Kim was struggling with the vending machine at the hospital, Darnell knew exactly how to get it working again.
And for EastEnders fans, this isn’t a coincidence. They believe Darnell’s wife is actually dead, and that she died due to cancer. So, when Darnell was there, he was too reminded of the past.
Taking to a Reddit thread after watching the early iPlayer release, many fans debated the theory.
One penned: “I’m thinking Darnell is a widower and his wife probably died of cancer, too. And his daughter will be a new addition to the teen group!”
Another added: “I’m guessing the mother of Darnell’s daughter is dead (so he’s probably a widower). This is why Darnell is reluctant to be a donor and doesn’t like being in hospitals. Not wanting to undertake surgery that would put him at risk. But I think ultimately he or his daughter will be the donor (we all know Darnell will have a change of heart).”
“I’m loving Darnell already. I do think there will be more of a reason he doesn’t want to be in hospitals. But great addition” a third wrote.
Whether or not Darnell changes his mind remains to be seen, but viewers already give him their stamp of approval!
