Is Demi Engemann really leaving The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives and does she appear in season 4?
While MomTok may have survived their latest scandals, one star is noticeably absent from season four.
Demi Engemann has been part of The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives since the show’s start but her status regarding season 4 has been the source of much specualtion.
Two years on from launch, Demi’s cemented her position on the Disney+ series as the show villain.
Season 3 proved particularly messy, completely severing Demi’s once-close bond with Jessi Draper and the group as a whole. Crossing over from “fun reality TV drama” into a very real defamation lawsuit, something had massively shifted.
By the time Demi filmed the season 3 reunion special, her relationships with the MomTok group had fractured beyond repair. Crying so heavily she was struggling to breathe, Demi had fights on set and backstage with the ladies as she tried to defend herself.
Demi eventually walked off the set alongside husband Bret Engemann – and seemingly away from the series for good.
This wasn’t the first time she quit MomTok, but is this decision permanent? Or does Demi make a grand return to settle some scores in season four?
Here’s everything you need to know about the star’s current status on the series, and if she’ll ever return.

Does Demi appear in Secret Lives of Mormon Wives season 4?
Yes. Demi does appear in season 4 of Mormon Wives, and so does her husband, Bret.

There was a major question mark from fans around Demi returning. After she stormed out of the reunion, the season 4 promotional poster noticeably excluded Demi. She was also the only MomTok member not given an executive producer credit for the new episodes.
Despite this, as season 4 kicks off, we see Demi in surprisingly good spirits. She is working on fixing her friendship with Jessi Draper, and even hits a recording studio with Bret to record a duet together.
However, the harmony does not last, and she ultimately only shows up for three episodes. Filming for season 4 commenced before season 3 aired – and, more importantly, before they filmed the reunion.
During episode 3, The Book of True Colors, cameras capture the reunion and its immediate fallout. After this point, Demi and Bret decline to film any more, and bow out of the show.
Demi even refuses to return for the one-on-one camera interviews with the production team. In her place, the team awkwardly films the empty chair where she should be sitting.
MomTok feel her absence though. The day after the reunion, Demi and Bret miss a dinner in honour of her best friend Whitney Leavitt – the one group member who hasn’t cut her off.
Whitney explains to the group Demi is “taking care of herself”, with Layla Taylor noting she’d heard Demi was “not doing well mentally”.

Has Demi left MomTok and the show for good?
That is the big question. At the moment, it doesn’t look like Bret or Demi Engemann will be returning for any future episodes of The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives.
Never say never, though.
Demi has dropped out of MomTok before, only to make a return once the dust settled. Other cast members have taken breaks from filming Mormon Wives for their mental health as well, making a comeback when they were in a better place.
But this has a sense of finality that’s not been present before.
In an interview with Entertainment Tonight ahead of the season’s launch, Jen Affleck said she “felt bad” for Demi.
“I know that she’s probably going to receive a lot of hate and scrutiny, and I know what it’s like to be in a position where it feels like the whole world is against you,” she explained. “And so for that, I do feel empathy towards her.”
Jessi, on the other hand, has cut ties. Quoting Laguna Beach’s Lauren Conrad, she declared: “I wanna forgive you, and I want to forget you.”
“I’ve seen her scream and yell and talk down to every person in this group at this point,” she said. “So it wasn’t even about me, it was like, if you treat people that way that are supposed to be your friends, I just don’t know if I want that in my life.”
However, Jessi believes Demi will come back in the future. And they’ll welcome her, too – with both Jessi and Jen agreeing she makes great TV, and “is a great villain”.
