Emmerdale and Coronation Street fans furious as soaps will not air tonight and they won’t be available to watch on ITVX

Football once again takes over

Emmerdale and Coronation Street fans are in for some bad news, as neither of the soaps will air tonight (Friday, August 7).

Throughout the entirety of July, soap fans were forced to have many episodes cancelled, and huge changes to their favourite shows every week. This was all due to the World Cup.

But with that now over, everyone hoped the ITV schedule would get back to normal programming. However, in a new update, both Emmerdale and Coronation Street have once again been cancelled tonight.

Why are Emmerdale and Coronation Street not on tonight?

Unfortunately for soap fans, football once again takes over the channel tonight. Instead of the soaps taking up the 8pm – 9pm time slot, ITV will be broadcasting sports.

Tonight sees the EEL Cup match between Middlesborough and Wrexham. And their kick-off time is exactly when the soaps would begin airing – 8pm.

The match is the first-round tie, and will take place at Riverside Stadium.

While sports fans may be happy at that news, soap fans definitely are not! Especially as both soaps ended on huge cliffhangers on Thursday night (August 6).

In Emmerdale shocking scenes took place as Dr Todd let herself into Charity’s home once again, and the pair came face-to-face for the first time.

And over in Coronation Street, Kit gave Gary a huge ultimatum that he had until 3pm the next day to hand himself in – or he would.

Soap fans fume at ITV

Naturally, these huge endings make fans immediately want the next episode. So, to have neither soap on air tonight is incredibly frustrating.

Fans have taken to social media to voice their annoyance.

One fan penned: “Why can’t they put football on another channel? Why do they have to mess with the soaps?”

Another added: “Not football AGAIN?”

“Surely they could still put the soaps on ITVX and YouTube. This isn’t fair!” a third wrote.

An annoyed fan commented: “After that ending I have to wait until Sunday to see what happens next. That’s not fair.”

For years soaps have been sporadically cancelled due to sports taking over ITV’s schedule. But no matter how many times it happens, Emmerdale and Coronation Street fans will never be happy about it – we don’t like missing an episode!

So, while Emmerdale and Coronation are not on tonight. Make sure you don’t miss Sunday’s episodes of both.
