He reminds them that he had a “medical” in May, adding: “I disappeared off the other week and I had a biopsy and it is cancer and it’s aggressive. But it’s really early so the treatment will be, you know.

“I was praying we could get the harvest done and then I could go and get some treatment but it’s going to be slap bang in the middle.”

Jeremy’s voice breaks a little and Kaleb appears to wipe away a tear.

“Look after yourself,” Kaleb tells his boss. “You go and do…” Jeremy assures him he isn’t “daft”. He says he needs to have an operation in two weeks.

Charlie wishes Jeremy a “very, very speedy recovery”. Jeremy assures him he “will be fine”.

Jeremy Clarkson ‘ends season 5 in hospital bed’

In the finale episode of series 5, viewers will see Jeremy lying in a hospital bed. Moments earlier, an ambulance is shown whizzing to Clarkson’s Farm with its sirens and lights blaring.

Jeremy, who has a Nil By Mouth sign above his head, explains his cancer treatment has “gone awry”.

“We started season 5 with me in a hospital bed and we ended season 5 with me back in a hospital bed,” he says to viewers. “Some of treatments gone a bit.. awry shall we say.

“I’m going to be here for a little while. I’m nil by mouth. I don’t know what’s going to happen.”

Jeremy adds: “What I wanted to say was, if this is all successful, I’ll see you for season six. And if it isn’t, I won’t!”

Jeremy waves to the camera and says “take care everyone”. The episode ends with a montage of best bits from the series as Eric Idle’s Always Look on the Bright Side of Life plays.

The final shot is of Kaleb holding his newborn son Ashton, who was born after the cameras had stopped rolling.

Get well soon, Jeremy.
