Fans of EastEnders have predicted that Julie Bates is having an affair behind husband Nigel’s back. Last night’s episode of the soap (Wednesday, August 27) saw Julie acting in a particularly shifty manner, snapping at Nigel when he mistakenly answered her phone.
He explained that he’d taken a message for her, but Julie wasn’t happy at him for his accidental snooping. “That’s my phone Nigel,” she told him. “I’ll answer it myself in future.”
Without explanation, she left them to it, telling him and Phil that she was ‘just popping out for a bit.’ But a bit of what, exactly?
Judging by the look exchanged by Phil and Nigel, they both suspected that there was something amiss too. What guilty secret is Julie hiding?

Taking to social media as these scenes aired, viewers shared their thoughts. And Nigel wasn’t the only suspicious one- quite a few people figured that she was hiding something. An affair, perhaps?
“Julie got a man on the side how strange,” wrote one fan on X.
“Is Julie knocking some fella off behind Nigel’s back?” asked another.
A third predicted: “Julie’s got another bloke.”
“Oh no! Why the scene with Julie’s phone? Please don’t let her have a deep dark secret,” said a fourth.

The reason for Julie’s caginess is apparently revealed in EastEnders tonight (Thursday, August 28), as she reveals her surprise for Nigel. No other man here, she’s brought his trusty car to Walford.
But is that really all Julie is hiding? The car seems to let Julie off the hook, but could it have been just a way of throwing him and Phil off the scent? The jury’s still out on that one.
